O'Reilly: Iraqi people are "primitive," "prehistoric group"
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 08:27 PM by Fenris
http://mediamatters.org/items/200406180005

O'REILLY: Because look ... when 2 percent of the population feels that you're doing them a favor, just forget it, you're not going to win. You're not going to win. And I don't have any respect by and large for the Iraqi people at all. I have no respect for them. I think that they're a prehistoric group that is -- yeah, there's excuses.

Sure, they're terrorized, they've never known freedom, all of that. There's excuses. I understand. But I don't have to respect them because you know when you have Americans dying trying to you know institute some kind of democracy there, and 2 percent of the people appreciate it, you know, it's time to -- time to wise up.

And this teaches us a big lesson, that we cannot intervene in the Muslim world ever again. What we can do is bomb the living daylights out of them, just like we did in the Balkans. Just as we did in the Balkans. Bomb the living daylights out of them. But no more ground troops, no more hearts and minds, ain't going to work.

<...>

They're just people who are primitive.

****************

This one made it to my sig line. Utterly sickening.

23. On the other hand..
Don't they cut off people's hands for stealing a grape?

While they're not prehistoric by any means, they are certainly barbaric towards individuals, whereas the west is more barbaric in the grand scheme of things, towards entire races and countries.

Iraq was, until Reagan egged on a war with Iran, one of the most advanced nations in the ME.

63. Jesus is from the Middle East, Mr. O'Reilly.
Edited on Sun Jun-20-04 12:10 AM by jdjkkse
KILLS me how these fundies can be so prejudiced when their religion, right down to the phrasing in the old testament, is as middle eastern as it gets. If this is a war between the middle east and so called "western democracy" then the middle east won thousands of years before there was a democracy or even a WEST, as fundies worship a middle-eastern God. The three major religions, dominant by CONQUEST, came out of that region. Game, Set, Match.

With all their hatred, you'd think they'd all be converting back to their pagan roots en masse. But no, they don't even make the connection. And history reveals that more often than not it is uncivilized and brutal cultures that over-run and conquer more civilized and advanced but peaceful ones ; in fact, I'd lay money on this happening far more than the other way around, so, Mr. O'Reilly, where in the spectrum does that place us?

76. arguably a better standard of health than many Americans
pre the Gulf War

The World Health Organisation in Baghdad reports that before the Gulf War, 93% of the population had access to a free, modern, high quality health care system.

How many Americans have ever had access to free modern high quality healthcare?

The percentage of their population that lived in urban centres and worked in the service industries (compared to rural dwelling and agriculatural work) was also higher than in the US at the same time.

19. primitive huh?
Barbarians are primitive. People who make do with limited resources are respectful. And god knows the Iraqi's have been making do with little resources, especially after the 1991 UN sanctions.

O'Reilly just doesn't have good conversations with anybody, late at night, with which to learn from. He's just a lonely guy, trapped in his own view of the world, with a vague sensation that he's wrong about everything.

That guy needs more people around him who disagree with him. I, as an unemployed individual, offer my services should you need me Bill.

70. A word about Barbarians - in the East the beat the tar out of the Chinese.
In the West they beat the tar out of the Roman Empire. People should learn that calling someone a barbarian or primative doesn't make them inferior in any way, shape or form to supposed 'civilized' cultures. Matter of fact they have a pretty good track record against two of the most powerful Empires of the day.

Bill O'Shitty should bone up on history.

26. "Cannibals!"
This is how colonizers commonly referred to Native Americans when they wanted to justify killing and slavery. (See Queen Isabella's "Cannibal Law" of 1503).

Dehumanization is a common tactic used by aggressors. O'Reilly should be careful what he says because he may end up on the receiving end of his own vitriol, as the "right" will begin to consume its own in the near future.

It makes some people in this country feel good.

That's the most fucked up part of all. A sizeable portion of the public wants to hear that they're better than other people (blacks, Jews, gays, Muslims, etc.)

The right wants people at each others' throats. They must be defeated!

Foreign oil.

Foreign worker exploitation that needs these 3rd world countries to use more oil.

Oil frigging oil.

Carter was right in 1980 but used the wrong tactic to get people to care.

Carter was socially conscious, Reagan was like the entertainment of the time - mentally unconscious.

For a superpower, our utter need for foreign products instead of our own will mean the end of us. Probably within 5 years, likely sooner if the terrorists blow up the oil installations over there...

Clinton isn't to blame for any of this. Reagan and Bush* are.

O'Reilly's point is worthless outside its narrow context.

37. Is O'Reilly
one of those pro-lifers who feel all life is sacred? I find it chilling how some people who demand that all fetuses are given the chance to be born can turn around and decide who, after having been born, are not up to specific standards and can be bombed, or given the death penalty or tortured for the benefit of those who do measure up. What makes them feel they are entitled to make these decisions. I would be curious to see how he answered that. I suppose rather than thinking about it, he would blubber, stammer, grow red in the face and call me a fu**ing terrorist. He really is not a very smart man, he just got a big mouth and no pride.

62. Maybe O'Reilly should
put on a uniform and go to Iraq. I'm sure he would last a long time there. He'd be crying to come home after the first car bomb went off anyplace near him. He's nothing but a big blowhard.

65. Oh my...
Who does this man think he is? How can a person suggest bombing innocent people, just because they are "primitive", or just because he thinks they are? Even if there are tribespeople living in primitive conditions compared to your lifestyle, shouldn't you try to help them, educate them?

One thing I'll say, nobody would dare speak like this in my country on radio or TV. This is way over the line. That there are millions of people in the United States listening to this guy and agreeing with what he says scares the hell out of me.

You can listen to the audio clip yourself at the link in the first post of the thread, and make your own judgement.

69. Big talk from a small man thousands of miles away from the danger zone.
This POS doesn't even have the BALLS to admit that he is a Nazi repuke like Rush or Hannity. I rate Bill O'Shitty up there with Dennis Turncoat Miller. Worthless pieces of shit that waste good air. May the both get Gangrene of the scrotum.

Asshole, yes. But that is not a strong enough term for this creature. He's a cannibal, in the pejorative sense.

78. No One Said That Facism Would Be Pretty
Sadly, O'Reilly's sentiments are representative of a lot of ignorant Americans. This country has too many idiots like O'Reilly, and that's why we're headed for a major, major fall.

80. Kick
I want to know more about this inflammatory rhetoric (since I didn't see it myself) and if anybody has acted on it - contacted the FCC, etc.

So you can't say "FIRE" in a theatre but you can say "kill all rag heads" for example, on TV to millions of viewers (including children)?! What says the FCC about this?

Please, give us Janet's nipple!
