1. I think you've got it right

Music does shape us to a certain extent but nothing life or death. Politicians can send us to war, affect the economy, affect education, environmental policy and on and on. Music is important to us but politics is vastly more so. What makes me angry is that more people seem to care about music than politics. I went to a site the other day for a band and they had their own message board dedicated to them. That's one band.

2. I don't think it's too simplistic an answer.

Music is a matter of taste (and sometimes I think it's an indicator of level of intelligence, but that's my bad, superiority complex shining through, and I refuse to acknowledge it) - I will admit to being annoyed by what I see as a lack of taste in people who listen to and like certain bands/types of music, but their choices in music do not affect my life.

On the other hand, ignorance of politics and bad choices in politics affect all of our lives.
