We are not at WAR!!!!!
If we leave Iraq, the Iraqi War Machine will not follow us back to New Jersey. The guy who claims to be "The War President" should be known as "The Occupier of a seized territory based on lies in order to control ME affairs and diminish OPEC's authority President"

Maybe too wordy?

3. Next time some dipshit GOPer tells you we are at "war"
ask him or her what they've done for the "war effort"? You're likely to be met by awkward silence.

Anyone could be a "war time" president. All they had to do it start a war. Hitler was one. Mussolini. W.

Its a lot harder to be a peace time president. That takes smarts and respect for others. Kennedy is a good example.

Bush has so far started wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti and has tried to overthrow the democratic govenment of Venezuela. Its a legacy he carries over from Nixon, Reagan and Dad. They are a nasty, selfish lot of bastards.

They were all up Clintons rectum for going into Kosovo. Maybe because they didnt see the profit. They didnt see what was in it for us.

11. Actually, Bush said to Tim Russert, "I'm a war president."
Dennis Kucinich was later asked during a debate, "Will you be a war president?"

Kucincih said "No, I'll be a peace president."

15. The same way there can be a "war on drugs", or a "war on poverty"
Or a "war on anything that keeps the freeptards distracted while we steal trillions out of the treasury."

Same results also. Drugs; not a dent. Poverty; on the rise, as is homelessness.

24. Bushco has declared
that the 'war on terror' will be never ending. If Bush continues to 'lead' we will be forever in a state of war. This allows Bushco to use this as an excuse to run rampant on human rights and trample on the rights of US citizens. 'We' must make sacrifices in time of war, you know.

2. A country at "WAR" does not give away tax cut goodies
to it's wealthiest citizens and corporations. I walk down the street, I see people at the ballpark, people going to the movies, folks hanging around the cafes and bars and restaurants looking like they have not a care in the world. No we are not at war and I hope we never are.

5. Sort of
While not exactly a sterling precedent for Bush to follow, the Kennedy/LBJ tax cut went through at the same time the number of troops in Vietnam was escalating (I believe they had 16,000 in Vietnam when the tax cuts passed shortly after Kennedy's death).

So there is a precedent for it, although not a very happy one.

19. Bush* must have been sleeping in history class.
Vietnam was an example of what not to do, in all respects, from getting involved, at the beginning, to the awful treatment of soldiers coming home.

There are several of here, that actually have friends and relatives getting shot at over there under constant denigration from the right as "unamerican", because we want our loved ones back home, and we do not want our children drafted as cannon fodder for an illegal war.

Iraq is shaping up the same way as Vietnam. The same freepers that are "supporting the troops", by bashing those of us with a honest vested interest in the Iraq war, will also be the first in line to scream "BABY KILLER", at homecoming troops, after it becomes a true quagmire, and the right bails out after profiteering their trillions, and suddenly starts to blame John Kerry for the whole mess after he wins in November.

Maybe B* should have stayed awake in class...

12. No other president in the history of the US...............
IIRC, has ever cut taxes during wartime. Bush is the worst President since Hoover. And I believe that, if he gets another term, it'll end just like Hoover's administration, with a second "Great Depression."

17. Actually Hoover, a civil engineer, was a good president.
Unfortunately his name is synonymous with the Great Depression which even Greenspan agrees was caused by the Federal Reserve Board. To pin it down farther, the Great Depression can be tied to the heart attack that caused the death of the governor whose vote had prevented interest rate increases. After his death, the board voted to raise interest rates and we entered into a depression lasting until WW II forced the government to deficit spend.

21. You are correct........
and forgive my generalization. Hoover wasn't a bad president, but his legacy of one was attributed to the lack of ability to turn the tide of Depression. But it is startling how the conditions that likely led to the Crash are present in the US today:

1) Unequal distribution of wealth and income. In 1929-30, folks at the top of the economic ladder were making 650% more than those at the bottom.

2) Unequal distribution of corporate power. The mergers and acquisitions of smaller companies by larger trusts and holding companies.

Also, the lack of a real trade tariff on imports gives foreign companies little to no barriers for shipping lower-cost and non-domestically produced items to American shores. As well as giving American companies a favorable environment to ship production jobs overseas.

Whew! Finally all that listening to Thom Hartmann has paid off!!

Your title, I agree is too wordy. Bush should be the "Do-over Daddy's Term" president. The only problem is that George Bush is so enamored of his body odor that he thought that all it would take to pull Operation Finish Daddy's War off was to get to Baghdad and topple a statue.

14. From a semantic and legal point of view, probably not.
Perhaps from a religious point of view, that seems to be how the insurgents see it, we're in a crusade. Of course the Pope declined to participate, so maybe it doesn't qualify as a crusade.

It is interesting that with the possible exception of Pearl Harbor which isn't mainland USA, neither the Japanese or Germans were able to cause 3,000 casualties in the US during WW II. The Iraqi War Machine, out of commission, won't be making an appearance here. But I do wonder about Muslim fundamentalists.

Either Sixty Minutes or 20/20 demonstrated how easily something could be smuggled into the US in a container. In their case they bought furniture in Southeast Asia, ordered a container, and loaded the furniture into the container and shipped it off. Upon arrival at their headquarters (in New York?), they unloaded the container (the seals on the doors hadn't been broken) and took pictures of the large metal pipe they had secreted in a chest. Customs got pissed when they caught wind of what had happened. Fortunately they weren't able to prevent the episode from being televised.

So while we may not have a horde showing up on our shores in the future, there is a definite possibility some of their handiwork may. I wonder about that every time I see a container going down the Interstate. Are we in a war? Not in the conventional sense. But that might not stop thousands more from getting murdered here from a plot carried out by Muslim fudamentalists.
