Beheading is brutal but bear in mind that our friends, the Saudi's preferred method of legal execution is public beheading.

But why would you wish that on anyone? It was awful when we did it, and inexcusable. Two wrongs won't add up to a right.

Iraq Militants Threaten to Kill U.S. Marine -- TV

DUBAI (Reuters) - An Iraqi Islamist group has kidnapped what is said was a U.S. Marine and is threatening to behead him unless Iraqi prisoners are freed, Al Jazeera television reported Sunday.

Al Jazeera said the group called itself the Islamic Response Movement. A brief video showed a blindfolded man dressed in camouflage and a Marine Corps identity card that named him as Wassef Ali Hassoun.

Jazeera said the group threatened to kill him if Iraqi prisoners were not released.

Arab TV Shows Tape of Marine Held Hostage

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- An Arab satellite TV network broadcast a videotape Sunday showing a blindfolded man in military fatigues and said he was a U.S. Marine taken hostage in Iraq.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military, but the video showed a card identifying the man by a Pakistani name and as an "active duty" Marine. The man had a trimmed moustache and his eyes were covered with a white blindfold.

The Al-Jazeera network said the group claimed it infiltrated a Marine outpost, lured the man outside and abducted him. The station said the group demanded the release of all Iraqis "in occupation jails" or the man would be killed.

The group identified itself as "Islamic Response," the security wing of the "1920 Revolution Brigades" referring to the uprising against the British after World War I.

Seems to me that they play right into the cause of BushCo's War On Terrorism. Maybe the "insurgents" or "terrorists" want a huge retaliation from BushCo to further radicalize Iraqis. The more beheadings in my view, the more that Americans will become used to them and soon they will be standard and passe'. 'Oh, another beheading, oh well..." The threat of or actual beheading will not bring about any US prisoner release because that will be giving in to the enemey and the beheaders know this.

If they are seeking to turn Americans against the Occupation they would stop the beheading and show kindness to captured troops and civilians but who knows what their goals are?

This is a lose/lose situtation.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A Marine has been missing from his unit in Iraq (search) for nearly a week but it is unclear whether he has been taken hostage, the U.S. command said Monday.

In the statement, the military said a corporal had been missing from his unit in the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (search) since June 21. The statement said the Marine was of Lebanese descent.

"Contrary to press reports, however, Naval Criminal Investigative Services cannot confirm that Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun has been taken hostage," the statement said.
