3. What would be the argument against a paper trail?
Is it additional costs or what can they possibly use as their excuse to hide the ballots? I just wonder why anyone would oppose this bill.

6. Possible arguments against paper trail
Here's whatI can see as potential arguments against the "paper trail" idea:

1) The whole idea is to STREAMLINE the voting process, not bog it down. Having to track paper, print out receipts/manage the printers, ballot boxes for the precinct receipts, more hardware, making things more complicated, blah blah blah.

2) It's an added expense to the already expensive voting machines. Hardware, paper, more election supervisors, etc.

3) Who wants a "receipt" of their voting anyway? People will just lose it, right?

I could think of more, but I have to get back to work.

I should say - 1) all the above reasons are pure crap and lazy to boot, and 2) I think, as a check against the voting machines themselves, that there should be a random lottery drawing of unique ballot identifier numbers printed in the local paper the day after elections, and everybody on that list would be required to present their receipt of their voting to check against both the electronic record and the paper record kept by the precincts. Democracy takes work, even here.

10. Um...just when is the VNS data from 2002 going to be released?
Still working on making sense of it? Or might this cause "irreparable harm" to the legitimacy of several of these "elected" officials??

Hello.

Thank you for your service to my district.

I'm writing to you today to urge you to support Congressman Rush Holt's bill, H.R. 2239, calling for A VOTER VERIFIED PAPER TRAIL FOR EVERY VOTE CAST.

I believe this issue to be the most important issue before the nation today.

It is the foundation of Democracy.

Without confidence in the voting system citizens of the US will see our very system of government as illigitimate and fraudulent.

Thank you for your support on this bill.

Sincerely,
