My meeting with Howard Dean
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 09:03 PM by AWD
Just got back about 20 minutes ago from meeting Howard Dean.

Damn, it was cool.

I only had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with him, but they were productive. Introduced myself as a candidate for the 16th District in Ohio for the US House, and he smiled and wished me luck. Told me that I'll need money, and these fundraisers were the perfect place to network and meet people who would eventually donate (I took immediate advantage of that advice).

He asked me what my campaigning strength was and how could I use it. I told him "energy" and stated that I would use it like I had done when I organized 16 anti-war protests in my hometown.

I told him thatBush was headed to Cleveland in September for a speech on the economy and we'd be there to protest. His advice - "be visible".

We then had our picture taken together (which will go right up on the website as soon as it's launched), and he greeted a few others before giving an AMAZING speech. Very energetic, full of passion. I love hearing this man talk...he's got fire that plays well to a friendly crowd.

After his speech, he took a few questions, and I was fortunate enough to meet Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell during that period.

I managed to position myself in a good spot after his speech, and we connected again on his way out. He left me with his campaign HQ phone number and asked me to keep him informed on the status of my campaign (gave me an extension of somebody to stay in touch with). There were a few more pieces of advice traded, and I was on my way.

Cloud Nine right now. Damn, that felt GREAT!!!!!

By the way, I have a great picture of the 2 of us, but need someone to serve it for me.

--------------

Other notes;
-I got to meet Spike Trees from DU, who has already e-mailed me with some kick-ass news and advice. Thanks, and check your e-mail for that picture!

-No sign of Metzenbaum.

-Another DUer was there too, but he's a lurker. Nice to meet you too!

I'm sure I 'll recall more great moments, but right now I'm too fired up to think straight!!!!

4. Dr. Dean fielded some challenging questions at the meeting
The crowd was largely the idealistic progressive crowd and Dr. Dean did a good job of defending his turf as a centrist.

The best part was when he got fired up and stated that we have to make labor, and minorities prominent in the campaign so that we can beat Bush by 3 or 4 million votes. He was truly passionate.

He asked me what my campaigning strength was and how could I use it.

I told you to be ready to talk about your campaign. Had you more time, he'd have wanted to know more about it, I'm sure.

SOOOOOO GREAT. Congratulations! The pic is mahvelous, and I LOVE your new sig line.

Thanks for the report.

GOOOO, AWD! GO, Dean!

29. Great pictures!
Now I have a question...how do you post pictures and banners like those in previous posts? I found a Dean banner on People Powered Graphics I wanted to use. I've posted for some help on Ask the Adminstrators and have gone to FAQ. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

30. The pic has to be on a webserver somewhere, then you just post the url.
Edited on Sun Aug-17-03 01:44 AM by Wonk
I don't really "do" Windoze, but I've heard that if you right click on a pic on a website and 'get properties' that's how to see its url with Windoze.

Images from some sites, like geocities for example, are blocked by DU.

31. Geocities...
...blocks hotlinking, not DU. Several servers do that to prevent overuse of their resources (and also to ensure that every hit on a site they host is accompanied by an ad) - Angelfire, Tripod, 50megs, Geocities, etc.

For example, this picture was linked from my old Angelfire site:

32. Very Cool
And I sure am impressed with Dr Dean and his willingness to give campaigning advice. Seems like he is not only interested in just more Dem wins, but also is interested in the candidate himself. That always says pretty good things about a person's character, and makes me believe my impressions of him are correct.

I'd vote for AWD, too, but that would involve vote fraud as I'm another state ...

That must have been exciting. I hope Stark County voters will actually study the leadership of R. Regula (and wife) and realize it is TIME FOR A CHANGE.
