How Did The Secret Service Let That T-Shirt Picture Be Taken?
You have to wonder. I know the picture was taken from far away but if someone could put a camera lens on him from a distance then the same person could just as easily have put a rifle scope on him. How did that happen? I don't care how you feel about Bush, it is the job of the Secret Service to make it impossible for anyone to get a shot at him, and it looks like when he walked to that windown he was fair game for any nutcase with a rifle.

10. Looked Like Regular Plate Glass To Me
I saw nothing about the window that gave me the impression that the glass was particularly thick. I'd guess that no change was made to the window and that he was at risk when he walked in front of it. Yod'd think that the most hated man in the world would be more careful.

4. Britain has a different approach to security than we do.
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 01:36 PM by yardwork
Until recently, anybody could walk right by number 10 Downing Street. There were just orange police cones and a couple of armed soldiers there to prevent anyone from literally walking up the steps and knocking on the door. The Prime Minister walked out that door regularly and got into limos.

It's probably changed now, but still nothing like the security we have in the U.S.

I agree that the Shrub should be more careful. I don't want him or anybody assassinated. That would just make everything worse.

It's not surprising that he can't manage to get his security team to prevent things like this. The Shrub can't do anything right!

Edited to say that I KNOW that Ireland is not part of Britain! I don't know what Ireland's approach to security is like - just figured that is somewhat similar to Britain's, if not more lax.

What makes you think there was ANY member of the public within 5 miles of the Chimp? Let alone a "nutcase"?

15. I agree, and I also found it
surprising and disturbing that the Secret Service allowed that. Maybe he did it on his own before they had time to stop him, but still, their job is to be alert to things like that and to try to prevent any situation at all that could possibly result in harm to him. All it would have taken was one lone nutball.

25. And there, in a nutshell, is the difference
between us and, say, the freepers.

Can you imagine the rabid, morbid fantasizing that would be taking place over there in a similar thread were it involving Clinton?

In fact, didn't someone at freerepublic.com recently have to talk to the secret service for making threatening comments online about Clinton along those lines?

anyway, I absolutely think they should be doing a better job of protecting Bush from photographers.. and in the process, they should protect us from pictures of him in his underwear.

19. I frankly think he should stay home.
Not right that we take over a country for days on end so Bush can walk around. It is not those people fault he is hated so. It is Bush and he should get home and into his bubble and give us all a brake.

23. Then why was W trying to open the window?
And why did someone else go ahead and open it for him? Lot of good bullet proof glass will do you if you keep the window wide open?

22. Bushs shirt
First of all the republic of Ireland is not part of the United Kimgdom so all of the Security work would be done by the Irish National Police also known as the "Guardia". Secondly the gun laws are so stringent in Ireland so therefore it would have to be an intsider who knew that Bush would be staying in that room. Just to clarify I am not a Bush fan I just felt that you need to have the right information before you make judgements.
