are hate-mongers, that's for sure. And let's look at history.
The Republican Party, founded in 1854, was a party of inclusiveness. They were, by and large, for freedom of the slaves, for granting land to farmers willing to work it for seven years, for national roads, etc, etc. After the Civil War, it was co-opted by Big Business, but it didn't make inroads into the South until after 1964, when Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. That's when the 'Solid South' started breaking apart. The candidacy of George Wallace was viewed by many as the start of a third party, a racist party, and the Repukes in power recognized that now they could tap into this hate if they only tweaked their message a bit. So you have Reagn lying about 'welfare queens', etc. etc. The racists, like Strom Thurmond, came over to the darkness in droves. The Party of Lincoln, the Party of Freedom, was destroyed. I'm surprised Old Abe's tomb in Springfield hasn't lifted off its foundations from him spinning in his grave.
