The Schwarzennegar Show
Every cable "news" station poised to air the Ahnold
show any minute. Staged with huge banners with
California Economic Recovery Council flag the background,
like this is some real summit of anyone but Ahnold's
pals.
Do the other candidates get this kind of star treatment?

unbelievable.

1. referendum on the media
More than anything else, the California recall vote is referendum on the media's power to appoint the spurious buffoon of their choosing to any political office.

Well, since Ahnold is such a "serious" candidate, I figure we should probably do some serious campaigning.

38. funny money story about Ahnold....
He used to (and may still) threw a coin into each room before
the maid cleaned to make sure she vacuumed...she would have
to collect all the coins and give them back to him.

That is a looney family.

34. The little old lady in Venice...
Ahnold uses the example of the little old lady in
Venice, CA who didn't have to sell her house because
of Prop. 13.
Of course that little old lady's house is now worth
$1 million in that area....and she pays little in
property taxes.

Any new buyers after Prop. 13 got screwed.

43. This is fact -- I know first-hand.
My mom, who lived in Mar Vista (near Venice) passed away last February. She bought her house in 1948 for something like $10,000 on my dad's GI loan.

Since Prop. 13 passed in 1976, my mom never paid more than $800-900 in property tax per year. The house sold last June for $589,000. The new owners will have to shoulder a property tax burden of approximately $7,000-$8,000 per year. Same exact house.

40. Interesting! He didn't say a word about the environment
On the same day that Davis signed a significant coastline protection bill. On the same day that 5 cities in California were named the top 5 places with the dirtiest air in America:

A national air pollution study found that Riverside, Calif., has the nation's worst air quality, with an average of 148 unhealthy air days a year.

The next four cities on the list were all in California: Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles-Long Beach and Sacramento.

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-dirty-air,0,4931736.story?coll=sns-ap-nation-headlines

More than any state, Californians have made the environment a decisive issue. Having grown up and lived in California most of my life, Arnold is not a Californian. He can't even pronouce it.
