He was being interviewed by Ian Masters in "Background Briefing". Kevin Phillips, who is a Republican who worked for Nixon (he was on "Now" with Bill Moyers on Friday) said he is voting Democratic for the first time in November, but without much enthusiam. He feels that the Democratic Leadership simply don't understand how Republicans operate and doubt that in the next 12 weeks they can lead the bayonet charge needed to take out Bush. Phillips calls Bush a zero, and if the Democratic Leadership really knew how to fight, Bush would be fairly easily removed. He also said the up to 36% of the electorate are fundamental Christians, which is why Bush's poll numbers never fall. Phillips believed that Kerry has options, if he had the guts to speak out like Perot and McCain did in 2000. Call Bush out for his trying to tear down the wall between church and state, bring up the Republicans cozying up to Sung Yung Moon, giving a firm time table for pulling out on Iraq.
There's no doubt in my mind that those of us in grassroots understand that we have to bring out ground, air and naval artillery to eviserate Bush, but does Kerry understand? What do you all think is going to happen in the next 12 weeks?
