Michael Moore admits he was on drugs at Boston Convention
Take Back the Media is here in Boston covering the Convention - just finished with our Media Summit over the weekend (which was FABULOUS) and this morning got our press credentials at the Westin here..

We got through the two lines of security, past dogs (one tried to attack a lady in line, hated her for some reason, real floor show there), and the signs indicating what you can and cannot bring into the convention -- and who should we catch TRYING to get OUT of the building but Michael Moore -- he was literally shuffling along surrounded by cameras with mikes shoved into his face..

so I jumped into the fray and pushed my way to the interior of the roving pack of mini cameras and the behemouth National rigs and spoke quickly to him..

First, let me preface this with what happened at the New Hampshire Primary (which we covered as well) -- back in the cold days of that event Michael Moore had gone on the stage to promote Wes Clark - giving a rousing speech -- the one where he wanted to see the debate between the GENERAL and the DRAFT DODGER -- and at the end I pushed my way through the crowd and time froze -- everyone stood back as I handed him a TBTM card and said, "I don't know if you remember me, but Take Back the Media produced the ARMY OF ONE ad that was one of the 16 finalists in the Bush in 30 seconds contest by MoveOn.org and I'd love to have a meet with you, even a little time on the phone?"

Michael had looked at me and said spiritedly, "You're the GUY!" -- so I handed him our biz card and said, "Thanks Michael, just a short meet sometime, eh?" and he said, "I can call you with the number right here?" as he patted his pants where he'd stashed the card - and I retorted, "Yep, that would be fine - I'll just leave you alone now - I know how busy you are.." and backed away as the crowd surged in..

SO TODAY, when I had forced my way in I asked him, "Michael! Back when you were throwing your support to Wes Clark and you announced our ARMY OF ONE ad on the MoveOn Bush in 30 seconds contest as one of the contestants I got to meet you personally, you had said to me - 'You're the GUY!' - I've wondered ever since what you MEANT BY THAT?"

Remember, he has maybe 10 cameras in his face, and 20 mikes and he says,

"I dunno - I must have been on Drugs!"... and he took my biz card while I repeated, "C'mon Michael, give us a call!" grinning..

I freaking died laughing as I patted him on the back, thanking him as he started shuffling away, surrounded - trying desperately to escape the Media pod hounds..

Later as I related it to the camera team we all started laughing thinking, "Oh shit, what if I just ruined his career? They've now got a clip of him saying he must have been on Drugs!"

One pal said, "don't worry about it - he can turn that right around and talk about Bush's drug use.."

So now I feel all better :)

I'm thinking of grabbing my little video camera and running around the Convention doing "Gonzo" video journalism while it's all going on.. after all, in the last hotel I had gone down late at night and found a precious book in their lending library that seems to fit right in and can't put down..

It's called, "Fear and Loathing on the 1972 Campaign Trail".. by Hunter S. Thompson..

Maybe I could do that with my little video camera..

think I should?

4. I did see a woman that looked a LOT like she
was Dr Evil's wife in the Westin..

It was the SAME suit that he wore in the Austin Powers movies only raging PINK.. she was coming down the escalator and I was so moved to ask her on camera is she was DR EVIL'S WIFE..

She would, of course needed to clone a "mini-she" tho, eh?

(I may have to blur a lot of faces out, but you can have some REAL fun here until you get thrown out) :)

:hi: Great report and I wouldn't worry about the drug remark. Your pal is right. The RW media just won't go there since they work for a druggie. ;)

6. Sure, go for it!
I think we need some good old fashioned gonzo journalism in this country after all the right wing bleating that's been going on for the past four years. And I wouldn't worry about MM saying he must have been on drugs. After all, it's not like he's a drug warrior advocating prison for everyone who does drugs like certain right wing radio hosts and presidents. They can't stick him with the hypocrisy charge. He could always say it was a joke too. There's no proof either way.

9. hey Symbolman
I just wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that for me three clips of your work strung together and repeated a couple of times have more impact on me than F911.
The timeline of that fatefull morning with later on the split-screen Bush / twin towers is must-see TV to me, in your american requiem.

And 585 pages of 9/11 commission report still leave the question open.

10. Thanks
Y'know, his work seemed so familiar and I kept thinking, "Holy shit, has this guy been to our site and watched all my flash work?"

Honestly, I'm pretty sure that all my work put together would encompass about a good 45% or more of his factual imagery - of course he had the heart breaking mom, etc and that put it over the top for me..

but as you said, my "Bush Knew - An American Requiem" was done about TWO YEARS AGO - I actually wrote to MM and told him he should take the footage from the Emma school and make a film with it..

I bet about a thousand others did as well, but I KNOW I did :)

thanks so much for your support, it really means a lot to me, I've done all this work for FREE and have to fight for every dime to get it out to the world..

all the best,

symbolman
