Dear friend,

The President took the nation to war based on his assertion that Iraq posed an imminent threat to our country. Now the evidence that backed that assertion is falling apart.

If the Bush administration distorted intelligence or knowingly used false data to support the call to war, it would be an unprecedented deception. Even if weapons are now found, it'll be difficult to justify pre-war language that indicated that the exact location of the weapons was known and that they were ready to deploy at a moment's notice. With a crisis of credibility brewing abroad and the integrity of our President and our foreign policy on the line, we need answers now.

Rep. Henry Waxman has introduced legislation to create an independent commission to investigate the Bush administration's distortion of evidence. Please ask your Representative to pledge his or her support at:

A President may make no more important decision than whether or not to take a country to war. If Bush and his officials deceived the American public to create support for the Iraq war, they need to be held accountable.

As you can see, I am a constituent from your district. I remember well how the Congressional Republicans joined together to force an investigative hearing to what amounted to little more than a stain on a blue dress.

Sir, this is far more than a clothing stain. If our sons and daughters went to fight a war justified by specious, false, or misleading evidence, the United States has tainted blood literally on its hands. Not only the blood of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians, but the blood of our own sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers, many of whom are still there--demoralized, depressed, frightened, and desperate to see home and loved ones again.

This proud citizen is asking you to overcome political agendas and show the world that the United States is the greatest and strongest defender of Freedom in the entire world; so proud and stong that we will not tolerate the evil of war based on specious, false, or misleading evidence offered by our leaders.

Do the right thing now for the right reasons and show the world what the US is made of: the blood, sweat, tears, and most of all, ideals of our bravest men and women.

proof read this please (particularly the lay/lie issue in the 2nd paragraph):

I am outraged by the revelations that false information was used by the Bush administration to justify starting a war. The only question that remains to be answered is, was this an outright lie on Mr. Bush's part, or just gross incompetence? A thorough, independent, bipartisan investigation is the only way to find out.

Now is the time to rise above petty, party politics. Thousands of Iraqi civilians lay dead, along with hundreds of American soldiers, if the intelligence was manipulated by Mr. Bush he must be held accountable.

During the impeachment farce, you, along with many of your Republican colleagues said, 'It's not about the sex, it's about the lying.' Well, if it really was about the lying, here's a lie that matters. People are dead. What are you going to do about it?
