Let's let the CapitolHillBlue story "settle" a little

I am not one to totally discount this story, for two reasons:

1) This is the second time CHB has printed such an item.

2) The tagging it with the National Enquirer brush may be a bit too broad - at this time. While it's rep here in the DC area is not often stellar, it still is (believe it or not) a source that many go to for the stories that the mainstream will not print. That said, I am not willing (at this point) to blow this story off.

SOMETHING is obviously wrong with * - dry alcoholic, epilepsy, heavy medication, fill in the blanks. Nobody can appear as he does, looking and acting like he does, without people questioning it. Many of us here are waiting for him to lose it big time with a reporter, or during the debates. Many of us also believe that his behavior is, lets just say, chemically induced. This fits with what CHB is saying.

Let's give this a bit of time, for remember, as much as we dislike Drudge, he broke Monica, and as much as we dislike The Enquirer, it broke Limbaugh. I will watch over the next days/weeks and see if anyone follows up.

NOTE: Another poster here on DU just told of this story being repeated on a Louisville, Kentucky AM station. If that is indeed the case, it could get interesting.

2. Check some other posts here on DU

It is a story re: Bush and drugs used to "temper" his behavior. There are several posts on it.

"President George W. Bush is taking powerful anti-depressant drugs to control his erratic behavior, depression and paranoia, Capitol Hill Blue has learned.

The prescription drugs, administered by Col. Richard J. Tubb, the White House physician, can impair the President’s mental faculties and decrease both his physical capabilities and his ability to respond to a crisis, administration aides admit privately.

“It’s a double-edged sword,” says one aide. “We can’t have him flying off the handle at the slightest provocation but we also need a President who is alert mentally.”

Angry Bush walked away from reporter's questions.
Tubb prescribed the anti-depressants after a clearly-upset Bush stormed off stage on July 8, refusing to answer reporters' questions about his relationship with indicted Enron executive Kenneth J. Lay.

Snip ......

Nobody has any idea if this story has any substance or if it's just a plant to get repeated by our side to make us look conspiratorial and desparate........

let it settle

7. They casually mentioned he's on ANTI-DEPRESSANTS?????
Let it settle, my ass.

Were they worried about suicide or merely erratic behavior?

15. You are displaying just the type of prejudices against anti-depressant...
... use that I fear would backfire if this story were pursued.

Most people in this country today probably have at least one family member on anti-depressants. They are not for "crazy" or unstable people. They are for many things other than depression as well.

Yes, they may be over-prescribed. Yes, most people on them today would have just "made do" in the past. But that doesn't change the fact that many many people take them today and they are NOT all unstable wackos (not that Bush ISN'T an unstable wacko, mind you; but use of anti-depressants is no evidence of that).

Even if the CHB story were true, it is likely based in Bush taking something like Prozac, which although that may have some stigma, it is stigma based on ignorance that will backfire.

10. Bob Woodward's book even supports the episodic seizures possibility
and he is not a Bush critic so I think there is some basis to these speculations about Bush having a medical problem. However, I expect the mainstream media and Bush's supporters to dismiss this information just like they overlooked Reagan's many lapses and memory problems that were readily apparent in his second term.

11. i was one questioning validity of story, but.......
i certainly dont discount. his behavior i could absolutely see them putting him on a prozac or other drug.

i question validity cause i believe it to be true, but cant jump on an unreliable source if we want to be heard on this
