Evil comes to Raleigh, NC.
Yes folks. It's actually happening. Promise Keepers is having a gathering here in Raleigh in Aug. For those of you who don't know about these bozos they are a misoginistic group from the religious right end of the spectrum. Apparently the promise they are talking about keeping is the one they made to their wives about running the family. You are supposed to apologize to her for giving up your job, as a man, and expecting her to do it when she is so ill equiped for it. Then you are supposed to "take back" your rightful control of the family, and her.

4. Senator John Ensign (R-NV)
I know that one of my U.S. Senators, John Ensign, is or was a Promise Keeper. I really would not be unhappy if he went to North Carolina and decided to stay.

2. I remember those guys
It's been a while since I've heard of those guys. It's such a shame that a lot of these modern fundies don't realize that their effort to "protect" women and ancient concepts of family are nothing more than property rights. For those of you who don't know, in the biblical times, a woman was property of her father (of unmarried) or her husband (if not.) This was why female virginity was so important to them since it meant the girl was "used goods." Kinda like when you open the box of an expensive action figure.
Love,
Yaoi Huntress Earth

8. Tenth commandment -- women as property
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

3. I saw the banner!

I was in Raleigh Mon/Tues. and drove right by the hotel/conference center where it is being held. I did a double take when I first saw it - I was led to believe Raleigh was a little more forward thinking than that.

Will Newt be speaking??? :)

6. Raleigh is definitely NOT "forward thinking"....
Even the liberals are conservative (except for a few enlightened DUers sprinkled around).

Just drinking the WATER there gives everybody that right wing "all hate all the time" kind of mean streak!

Those freaking "promise keepers" are soooooo strange. My bro-in-law is one....a tormented soul if Jesus ever knew one. They truly are among the lost souls...and they're angry about it.

12. Oh please.
Look at where Raleigh is located. Buckle of the bible belt. FOr where it is Raleigh is very forward looking. For some other places it's average. Other places make it looks backwards. Make sure you aren't confusing Raleigh with some of the towns just outside it like Bear Grass and such. Still, even in those places they can be more progressive than you might think. Or at least less backwards. It's a real mixed bag most of the time.

9. These idiots...
have been around for over a decade. While at on time they had over 500,000 members, their roster has shrunk dramatically over time. They are basically nothing but a bunch of little boys who, when confronted with strong, capable women, run in circles, clutch their testicles and howl at the moon.

I've a great deal of contempt for men of such ilk. Being a man myself, I hate the idea that they are unable to come to terms with a womans basic equality in our society. So, they flee to the protection of a "godly" philosophy that lets them, once again, feel superior to something.

Sheesh...how lame.

10. Hey now! Not fair!
I tend to clutch my testicals and howl at the moon. Love strong capable women though. Love a few women that aren't as well. Kinda love women period. I howl at the moon cuz I've a strong affinity for wolves. *singing very off key* I was a wolfman, when wolfmen were not cool.
