1. One thought on that film
Aside from showing up and staying for 15 days, I'm not sure exactly what Kerry did to help the families and fire department. Did he do anything as Senator (aid, money, etc) or was it just showing him as a comforter?

By the way, read the book on that fire that was based on the Esquire article. Amazing story.

Actually staying 15 days is a whole bunch of support, no?

5. No, it is extremely impressive
But I was waiting for them to show him championing some piece of legislation but didn't get it. I guess I thought it would tie into the calls for more support for first-responders, which I think was championed by every major speaker this week.

3. I don't know that he did anything tangible
And I don't think that was claimed in the film.
It obviously meant a lot to the families.

Start contrast to how many funerals Bush has attended since he got his war on.

7. Did you see Al Gore in the memorial footage?
He was there, also. That was back when we had a real president and real vice president.. who attending things like that. Very compassionate.

4. I'm sure they played it again
because they were running ahead of schedules. ABC, CBS and NBC were not going to start convention coverage until 10:00 they - needed filler

8. Doesn't matter why
it was good to see it again.
And as far as filler, I'm sure they had some more conversion stories .

6. Kerry Supported Families of Fire, That Day and Beyond
That was a tragic tragic day.

He stayed for 15 days, he helped organize a memorial at the local arena that holds thousands of people, which was attended by Clinton and Gore.

"Why John has the character to lead this country and why Firefighters all over America are going to help him every step of the way: In 1999, when Senator Kerry was halfway around the world flying to Burma, on a mission for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he heard the news of the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. fire. Six firefighters died in the line of duty. What did John do? He ordered his plane to turn around and return to Massachusetts. He flew halfway around the world to offer his support to the Worcester Fire Department and the families of the six firefighters killed. We support John because before there was any press following him on the campaign trail, before there were cameras on him every day, he did what was right. John has courage, loyalty and character when the lights are off, and that's what it takes to make a great leader. That's why firefighters are with John and that's why he is going to win." http://blog.johnkerry.com/cgi-bin/mt-comments.cgi?entry_id=770

He continues participates regularly in annual fundraising hockey events for equipment for firemen. Dennis Leary helds the effot (he lost relative in fire - http://www.learyfirefighters.org/

One firefighter's testimonial says :After the Worcester tragedy, he kept his promise to turn those lessons into real legislative action. He didn't just help heal our community-- he led the efforts to tell our story on a national level so that firefighters have the updated technology, equipment and resources they need to stay safe."
