Dateline did a Cuba travel piece that was also about finding Elian.

They sent a reporter and a camera back to Cuba with a Cuban-American. It's a very sympathetic piece to Cuba. It's bitching about how Americans are only allowed to travel once. A Cuban-American goes back for what might be the last time under the current rules. Thinks the policy is dumb and will not help get rid of Castro.

Interview a Cuban gov't official. Reporter was very respectful, but asked why Cuba couldn't change. Official said the US should leave them alone. He also said Cuba is not a part of America and Cuba should not have to change. America should leave Cuba alone.

They have found Elian's dad. Elians dad videotaped the kid. He is now 10. Still a cute little kid. Only kicker is that Fidel comes to his birthday party. He is a national symbol and is even on display at Communist party rallies. That made me cringe a little. But I respect the advice of the Cuban official and will leave them alone.

2. Americans can't go at all unless they have direct relatives.

And Cuban Americans can only go to Cuba once every three years now.

Its an egregious abrogation of our constitutional rights.

Unfortunately, Kerry's Cuba policy maintains travel sanctions and the embargo.

Kerry's stated policy on Cuba:
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/8848574.htm
  • Under a Kerry administration Cuba will remain under US sanctions
  • Under a Kerry administration we will still be travel banned unless our travel is deemed politically worthy by US gov jackboots

Mr Kerry, Tear down the wall!

    3. A friend of mine's parents tried to go to Cuba.
They are in their '80's and very well informed. The husband was a Marine Corps pilot in WWII and won a silver star. I find it incredibly ironic that a bona-fide hero of the "Land of Free" is forbidden to travel to another country.
