Freeper believes Edwardses deserved to lose their son.
Help me, fellow Democrats. Help me figure out what to do with my anger (besides working for Kerry). How can I swallow my anger at the absolute small-mindedness, the absolute LACK OF A SOUL of a person like this? ...

The Freeper thread was about Elizabeth Edwards's weight (a new favorite topic among the Freepers. Real classy people over there). One sensitive person started the thread, talking about how Elizabeth might have been affected after losing her son. But then, there's this:

"I guess I just do not have that much sympathy for the family for their loss. John Edward's politics supports killing millions of children a year. I think it is only fair that he suffers a similar
loss."

My God. I feel so violent. I need to go to bed and try to forget I read this.

10. it exposes their talking points, that's why I tiptoe through cesspool
I find out where a lot of Repuglican lies come from by following Freeper links.

It's gross ... but I also listen to Rush sometimes, and even O'Lielly (as long as I can stand it), because I need to know what the enemy is up to. Freepers also list the polls they are "freeping," and talk about how they're going to protest this or that, or whom they're writing letters to the editor to. We need to be informed of what they're doing, planning, thinking -- so we can respond, pre-emptively, if possible.

Hell, they're coming into DU, and actually getting people fired (like that DUer public radio DJ who got fired earlier in ths summer because of a letter from a lurking Freeper).

14. Yes, it's only good for raising one's blood pressure...
Please keep in mind that the Republican party is generally a magnet for intolerant people full of pent-up hatred, and their conversation is bound to reflect that attitude. Stay positive & focused on the fact that this country is going to have new leadership in November -- that alone makes me happy.

11. I don't believe in karma
My husband and I do everything we can to help everyone we can, and our life has been a bitch, from cancer at age 25 to a horrible genetic disease hanging over us to crap bosses and job losses because of Repukes.

If there is karma, it's working backwards on us.

9. freepland should only be visited for Comic Relief
but to be fair plenty of posters on that thread disliked the threads about Elizabeth Edwards's weight. Unfortunately in any bunch of people there are morons who can not make a reasoned and cogent argument therefore "she's fat" comes to the fore - on DU I've seen George and Barbara Bush criticised for not "grieving properly" over the death of their child and the Bush twins called sluts for showing cleavage. Both sides have people who go over the top, who are nasty, petty and spiteful.

Ignore them, it's easier on the blood pressure.

13. I mostly agree with you
And I thought there were a lot of over-the-top comments here when Reagan died. But Barbara Bush went golfing the day her daughter died. That seems pretty cold to me.

15. just goes to show the variety of opinion here
I had no problem with the Reagan threads - you organise and pay for the torture of entire villages then you can hardly expect decent people to eulogise you, but for me the Bush's golf game is not at all demonstrative, people deal with things in different ways, or maybe she wasn't dealing well at all and was blocking it out by keeping busy, maybe it hit her later, someone I know went to work the day after his fiance was killed everyone thought he was cold, fact was he just couldn't sit in a house all day that the women he loved would never come back to - everybody deals with stuff like this differently, and having never had kids I wouldn't dream of telling someone how they should act in that situation.

16. yeah that's cool
But I think the Bushes' golf outing tells you something about the Bush family. And I think the unseemly Reagan comments tell you something about the people who made them. That's just my opinion, but I'll probably stick with it.

12. People on that site do not hear a thing but what they want.
To them Bush walks on water. But their have been other who think like that. Look at the Germans at the end of WW2 , and some were still for Hitler. Look at Jones and the kool-aid thing. I have seen women who are beat by their husbands do the same thing. Some thing about staying with the shit you know or some such thing.

18. Just consider the source.
People like that really aren't worth stressing yourself out over. Walled in and afraid, uneducated little minds, stuck in their 'this is how it should be' little fantasy world that have to project a big, tough, self righteous image just for a laughable false sense of being "better than." How pathetic is that!

I mean, these are guys that are fanatical about protecting undifferentiated clumps of cells (even it kills the mom) but if you happen to be among the BORN, you're just S.O.L. as far as they are concerned.

How can you shame somebody for lack of human decency when they don't even knwo what that is?

Just try to educate the not hopless cases.

20. Anyone who doesn't have sympathy
for a family losing a child is very sick. I read a few of their nasty posts. I think they're so worried that Kerry is going to win that they will use anything to try to ridicule the opposition.

Some people here were not happy when I posted that I think Elizabeth Edwards should stay away from Wendy's for a while but it wasn't meant to ridicule. I was thinking mainly of health, and yes, you look better when you're slim! Three of my relatives have diabetes and one of my brother's daughters is, imo, also going to have that problem if she doesn't watch her diet.

I don't have that problem, but I'm watching my diet because I believe in prevention. Now that Mrs Edwards is a public figure, it would be nice if she sets a good example. So many people have a weight problem. It's much nicer to be slim, unless you can't help it because of an illness.

24. I found this Freeper thread so disgusting
that I too felt violent. I really hate these people. What worthless garbage they are. The poster that wanted all liberals deported and said there should be no tolerance and it was them versus us and only they should survive was horrifying .And, she was a teacher and expressed contempt for her students! And the many posts that expressed contempt for those of us with no health insurance! I hope their god forgives them.I don't.What they have to say about the Edwards is loathsome.I have such respect for the Edwards putting themselves in this position. What an act of bravery this is! The story about them "inviting" the press on their graveside pilgrimage was disgusting. Those stupid freepers can't even acknowledge that Edwards is a VP candidate who would be follwed by press and secret service ANYWHERE he goes. If these people remain in control of this country, I am out of here .

28. It's a pity that those kind of people have neural activity sufficient to
sustain respiration (though I'm sure that more than a few go through each day with the continual mantra "breath in...now, breath out...breath in..."). We'd all be a lot better off if they weren't able to do that. Scum.

How can people such as the ones on that website say something like that? From what I can tell, that is a republican website, and last I heard, aren't republicans "religious" and "compassionate"???

I saw none of that there.
