Well, Kerry did something today that I thought was great

And, as many of you know, praise for Kerry is usually in very short supply from me. (Right, folks?)

I saw an interview with someone from CNN and of course Howard Dean and his remarks to Wolf Blitzer about the political use of the terror alerts came up. Kerry did NOT disavow Dean, he did NOT choose to distance himself from Dean or cut Dean off from the campaign, but rather he said that Dean has done a fine job as a surrogate and that Dean has his opinions but that he, Kerry, has his own and doesn't agree w/Dean on that subject.

It was the best sort of response that could be expected from Kerry, IMO. Didn't give an inch, didn't give the rightwing much leverage, and stood up to the interviewer and more or less for Dean as well.

Edited to add: I really hate the way the rightwing corporate media tries to bait Dems into disavowing other Dems. Kerry didn't take the bait this time, and good for him.

1. Good
because we all know that this administration has a vested interest in scaring the bejesus out of people in hopes that they will rally behind Bush.

2. Kerry's learning
When we fight, we win. Stand up to the nonsense, no matter how trivial, and knock it out early and often. These creeps back down when they're challenged. But we must challenge for them to back down.

7. Yep
I think we often posit as a choice between being doormat democrats or acting just as dispicably as the republicans; but the truth is the best approach is probably to be forthright and forcefull without getting down in the gutter.

3. He's learning.
That will help make up for Kerry piling on Dean along with Lieberman after Saddam was captured and Dean said it doesn't make anything safer.

5. Dean is doing a great job carrying water for Kerry
I'm sure Dean's speech was approved 100 percent by the Kerry people. It's a way to get the sentiment out there that the terror alerts have a political motive (which many people believe) while not having Kerry actually say it. That's what surrogates do, and I'm proud of Dean for it.

9. Dean is a white man
of course Kerry doesn't have to distance himself.

Now if Dean had been, say Whoopie Goldberg... oh wait.

10. Divide and Conquer
That's what the Republicans are trying to do.

I was watching that Tucker Carlson show (the guy with the bow tie) and he was arrogantly pointing out how most of the people at the DNC were against the war. Yet, Kerry voted for the war (a play on words that I am sick and tired of hearing, since Kerry voted to authorize war AS A LAST RESORT, but Bush seemed determined to go to war as a first resort) and nobody there seemed to care. He says that all we care about is hating Bush and we don't care about the issues.

He could not be more wrong. The fact is that Bush gives us an overabundance of issues fr us to disagree with him over. For some of us the War is of most importance, for others it's the fact hat he lied to go to war, for others it's the economy, for others it is his stance on abortion, stem-cell research, gay marriage, the environment, the secrecy of his administration, his reluctance to cooperate with the 9/11 commission, then finally agreeing to cooperate but only behind closed doors, with no media, no recorder, no oath, and with Cheney, his arrogance, and his intelligence (or lack thereof). Need I go on?

Their side parrots off any slogan handed down from the top (for that is what the Neo-conservative ideology boils down to; a set of quasi-patriotic, tough-sounding slogans), and since we don't do the same they point that out as a weakness. They could not be more wrong, and we should call them on this whenever we can.

11. Tucker Carlson
is no longer relevant. He imploded during the convention when he said that only those who know the issues should be allowed to vote. His co-pundits even looked at him like he had lost it.

20. Can't say I feel sorry for him.
I always thought he was annoying. I am currently without cable TV (I guess these RWingers are wrong about us "libruls" and our pampered lifestyles!) so I usually see him on Chris Mathews' show on the NBC network, right after Meet the Press. I always thought he seemed to get a little flustered when Norah O'Donnell, the NBC White House correspondent and a very attractive woman, was on the panel. I don't know, but to me it seemed like he was trying to be extra smart (meaning "extra annoying"). Rather funny. But still annoying.

13. Good point
Which came first, the chickenhawks or their rotten oeufs? With this growing accumulation of rotten eggs we could have a mighty exciting egg roll on the White House lawn! P.U.! A veritable Neocon
Eggstravaganza. (oh yeah, they'll be outta there before Easter, if we do our work)
.

they turn right around and say he disavowed Dean's comments. At least this stuff no longer surprises me...

21. The media has been doing this since yesterday.
Trying for the great divide. I thought Kerry's response was fine.
I also chuckled at Woodruff when she posted Dean's response on the screen after giving him good air time.

I posted earlier that Kerry should not embrace the remarks, but that other Democrats, like Lieberman, should not be so afraid.

Dean:
"Kerry has a right to his opinions.
I have a right to mine."

One good thing, the bat at the blog brought in over 45,000 since this morning.
