"Because I thought it was the right thing to do."
"Mr. President, why did you..."
"Because I thought it was the right thing to do."
There you have it.
That's "our" president*s rationale for whatever he does and whatever decisions he makes.
Delete the last nine words from that phrase. They're simply reasons for the reason.
"Because."

Like a mommy dealing with a 2 year old kid who is too young for you to really be able to explain much to yet.
"Mommy, why do I have to go to bed?"
"Because."
"Why is the sky blue?"
"Because."

It's just too much bother (OK, damn near impossible to do) for a busy mom, or dad, to try and explain these things to a small person who doesn't have the knowledge or vocabulary to understand an explanation yet.

That's how he treats us, and that's how he thinks about us.
"Y'all don't NEED to know. Just because. That's good enough for you."

Every time he hunkers down on the lectern so he's kinda gettin' down on "our" level. And starts explainin' stuff to us like he's talking to a bunch of third graders. That's how he sees us.

We don't really get any answers.
"Just because."
I fervently hope that there are too many grown-ups voting this time to be content with "Because".

1. that is the main reason i can't stomach listening to him, he speaks
down to me like I'm an idiot and then repeats the same thing over and over.

I am an intelligent, informed person who expects to be treated like an adult. Is that too much to ask from my President? I hope not.

2. Well said.
Being <ahem> 40-some, and fairly intelligent, I really don't need a "daddy" telling me what to do. And you only have to look at his own family to see he hasn't done such a great job "parenting" them!

4. Bush* also said today that we had to get rid of Saddam because
"he was capable of making weapons."

WTF? Hell, *I'm* capable of making weapons.

7. haha! Okay here's exactly what Bush said
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 07:06 PM by Lex
.
taken right off http://www.whitehouse.gov, from the transcript there:

"We may still find weapons. We haven't found them yet. Every person standing up here would say, gosh, we thought it was going to be different . . .

But what we do know is that Saddam Hussein had the capability of making weapons."

----------------------

Is this the new standard or what?

6. *'s mental age stalled at 5
He thinks that response sounds like a grown-up who knows too much for you to handle. The problem is, he can't come up with logical explanations because he's the kid and we are the grown-ups. (That's why he can't call on Helen, his inadequacies will be glaring, and in front of the whole world!)

11. in his convention speech, clinton kept repeating that bush
"believes" he's doing the right thing. i loved that speech because clinton kept hammering home the point that "beliefs" have nothing to do with good public policy.
