Strong red state? Strong blue state? Doesn't matter!
The popular vote does matter! We all still need to vote November 2!

How many times did Republicans claim that Clinton did not have a mandate because he won with less than 50 percent of the vote?

The fact that Gore won with half a million more votes than Bush* certainly bolsters the claim that he was the legitimate winner.

And there are down-ballot races that will surely depend on our Democratic votes, if not to win, then to build a stronger party.

No matter how hopeless or "in the bag" Kerry's election appears in your state, be sure to vote and get out the vote!

Thank you kindly for your attention! :D

1. everything you say makes emminent sense; yet, it's 100% wrong.
first off, winning is everything. this has never been more apparent than with shrub in the oval office. by hook or by crook, he finnagled his way in, and that has made all the difference. concerns margin of victory or even legitimacy surface or fade based on political power.

the republicans will ALWAYS come up with something to undermine the power of a democratic president. if they can't use margin of victory, they'll find something else. and the press will carry that story as long as the power structure continues to favor the republicans.

so don't worry about picking up flak, that part's inevitable. let's just worry about winning!

2. It's 100 percent wrong to encourage people to vote even if
Kerry has no chance of winning their state -- or he's a lock? I'm afraid I don't understand.

6. my point is that presidential electoral strategy is ALL about winning
and there's no sense spending resources on foregone conclusions when there are states where you can actually make a difference.

i applaud your enthusiasm to support kerry/edwards, and by all means, vote. but if you're really interested in helping the ticket, direct your efforts to a battleground state. you can call, write, and donate to efforts that support the campaign, directly or indirectly, in another state. perhaps you could even find time to travel to arkansas or missouri, more promising states than texas.

3. Strong Republican states
could have a lower Puke turnout because they know their guy is gonna win, so here's a perfect oppurtunity to rock their world by taking one of their "safe seats".

Enough Democrats in the right district can change the way the House turns out.

4. I reject the whole notion of 'safe states'

self-fulfilling prophecies are dangerous for democracy.

7. there seem to be so many worries on the board
that somehow people... in fact...DU people... won't vote if we talk too much about which states are likely to go DEm or GOP. It is a bizarre idea. I live in a solid Kerry state and I CAN'T WAIT to cast my vote. Last election I voted in Florida and COULDN"T WAIT there either. Just because we have an interest in EV projection and speculation doesn't mean anybody is taking this election for granted or anything like it. These projections will only come about if we all work hard and get everybody we know out there to VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

9. And you make an excellent point in your original post
down-ballot races, building the party -- it's all about voting and getting out the vote. Also, as they say on Wall St, 'past performance is not necessarily an indicator of future results' -- things change, and it is in our power to make that change.

10. I believe that we are going to
take all 50 states. So I would recommend working for victory in ALL of them.
