Feinstein won't vote for Davis replacement --Senator breaks with other Dem
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/08/22/MN270577.DTL

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, in a split with California's Congressional delegation, said Thursday she is so outraged by the recall election that she'll refuse to vote for a replacement candidate despite the presence on the ballot of the state's No. 2 Democrat.

Offering her strongest support to date for Gov. Gray Davis, Feinstein also took aim at the leading Republican candidate, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The senator, at a news conference at Los Angeles police headquarters to promote the extension of a federal assault weapons ban, questioned whether Schwarzenegger supports strong gun-control laws and blasted his movie roles as glorifying violence.

Feinstein's statement that she wouldn't vote in the Oct. 7 recall election for a replacement candidate was seen as a blow to the campaign of Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. Bustamante is asking people to vote "no" on ousting the Democratic governor and "yes" on his candidacy.

1. If Davis is recalled and Cruz is narrowly defeated
we may have Dianne to thank for this. Like it or not Cruz is on the ballot and we should take every precaution to keep this seat democratic by voting No on recall but yes for Cruz.

4. Sometimes her brain seems to go.
Her attitude could well help the Republicans win the governorship in California. We need to make sure whichever way the recall goes, we wind up with a Democrat for governor. Whe nsomeone in a high visibility position goes out of her way to set an example that could ensure Arnold victory, that person needs to re-examine which side they are on. In Feinstein's, case, she voted for anti-choice, racist, pro-discrimination-against-the-disabled-nominee Sutton. She has also voted for other anti-choice nominees and voted for the bankrupcy bill, USA-Patriot, Homeland Security and the war. Personally, I think she is more or less on the Republican's side but doen't have the courage to say so.

7. well yeah
pretty much

I don't understand why she's backing Davis so hard. When he ran against her for the Senate the first time, he compared her to Leona Helmsly!

there's something going on that us mere mortals aren't privy to

5. Ah, good ole DiFi.
I could be wrong, but this seems almost like an endorsement for Arnold. Everytime I wonder about Di's motives I find there is something in it for her and/or her husband. I wonder what it is now? I don't have time to go searching.
