Zell Miller -statement on Abu Ghraib
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 11:58 PM by socialdemocrat1981
I was searching through Zell Miller's press releases and I came across the following one dated May 13th 2004.

Miller: Finger-pointing, Apologies
Over Prisoner Treatment Only Boost Enemy
"I Refuse to Join In National Act of Contrition'

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) today delivered the following statement on the floor of the United States Senate addressing the situation at the Abu Ghraib prison.

“Mr. President, here we go again, here we go again. Rushing to give aid and comfort to the enemy. Pushing and pulling and shoving and leaping over one another to assign blame and point the finger at America the Terrible. Lining up in long lines at the microphones to offer apologies to those poor, pitiful Iraqi prisoners.

“Of course, I do not condone all the things that went on in that prison, but I for one, Mr. President, refuse to join in this national Act of Contrition over it.

<snip>

“And yet here we are, America on its knees, in front of our enemy, begging for their forgiveness over the mistreatment of prisoners. Showing the enemy and the world once again how easily America can get sidetracked and how easily America can turn against it self.

<snip>
“But instead, I worry that the HWA - the Hand-Wringers of America - will add to their membership and continue to bash our country ad nauseam. And in doing so, hand over more innocent Americans to the enemy on a silver platter.

All his cliched mantras and his blatant echoing of all the GOP wing talking points makes him sound like Rush or Hannity. It's sad to see how someone who was once so wonderful, enlightened, visionary and forward thinking has regressed into becoming an annoying, cliched shill for the GOP

2. Gee Mr Miller..what about those of us handwringers that KNOW
other countries will USE this very behavior to torture OUR troops when captured...wasn't THAT the intent of the Geneva Convention? It's a sorry state of affairs when a seasoned legislator like yourself has no fucking clue about international law and the origins and intent of those laws....perhaps if you weren't inhaling so much SHIT due to your nose being up Mr Prevaricator's ass, your mind could think a tad more clearly.

3. Dispicable
but it shows where Miller is coming from....anything is ok for America to do, we're the Big Bad Johnnies on the block, and whatever we do is right...and anything is justified.

Wonder what he'd have been screaming if it had been Americans treated this way by Iraqis?

9. He was appointed to the Senate by Democratic Governor Roy Barnes

following the sudden death of his Republican predecessor, Sen. Paul Coverdell.

Zell was governor of Georgia and involved in state politics for many years. He was a good governor, particularly in regard to education.

Just months after his appointment, he was elected to a six year term, with none of us expecting what has transpired. He's retiring at the end of this one term.

Why the hard right turn? No one really knows. He liked Bush*, whom he knew from national governor's meetings, before he went to D.C. But he also liked Clinton enough to recommend Carville and Begala to him (they ran Zell's gubernatorial campaign) and to help Clinton take the vote in Georgia.

6. I suspect that somebody has shown Zell a special set of pictures...
which involve him in a compromising position with an animal and/or a minor. You would need a gun held to your head in order to spew such crap.

11. Early Alzheimer's can do that to you.....
just look at what it did to Reagan. His whole presidency was conducted under increasingly severe Alzheimer's.
