Poll question: With which political party are you registered?
If you're not yet registered to vote or are not yet eligible to vote, please indicate which party you will register with when you are able.

Some people do that...
so they can vote in the oppositions primaries, plus it makes em look bad if a reg repo votes democratic.

2. My state (South Carolina) doesn't require you to register as a member
of any party to vote. I am, of course, a Democrat though!

3. Here in Kansas
many Democrats register as Republicans so they can vote in the primary, which is where the real election usually takes place, since often there is not Dem running at all, or the Dem stands no chance of winning.

As the first Dem to run for the Kansas State House in my district since 1998, I'm absolutely uncovering how many real Democrats are out there. Going door to door is one of the most interesting things I've ever done in my life.

4. No Affiliation, not required in my state

Thanks to the reforms of Fighting Bob Lafollette early last century, Wisconsin has open, same-day registration. I've never even filled out a registration form. I just need proof of residency and they hand me a ballot, if they don't remember me from the last election.

Thanks to HAVA, that will change. Starting in 2005 the state is required to register voters with identification and keep it in a file for the polling stations. There will still be same day registration, but we now have to cough up a whole bunch of personal information to vote.

5. Same here in Texas,
though they do have a record of which primary in which one votes. You can show up and vote in whichever primary you wish, regardless of how you voted the last time.

They did change the law awhile back to no longer allow cross-over voting; that is, if you vote in the Democratic primary, you can only vote in the Democratic primary run-off. Used to be, if one party didn't have a run-off, folks from that party would "cross over" and vote in the other party's run-off in order to elect the candidate that would be easier to beat.

Ain't Texas politics fun? :kick:
