So the GOP is putting a black GOP-er up against Obama
Sorry if dupe

Obama to Soon Have Black GOP Foe for Senate Race

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Illinois Republicans on Tuesday narrowed the field of prospective U.S. Senate opponents for Democrat Barack Obama to two, and virtually assured that the next senator from the Midwestern state will be black.

1. It's a dupe

They picked a drug addict who was fired for lewd behavior and a carpetbagger as the two possibles.

My money goes on the lewd addict as the final choice.

2. Yes the GOP is playing the "race" card
They have NO real morals or values....and Obama will be able to seize upon this callous manipulation of voters.

10. I think this is a fabulous step forward, actually
The mere concept that a U.S. Senate race in a huge state like Illinois would be contested between 2 African Americans would have been inconceivable not too long ago.

I vividly remember the 1983 race for mayor of Chicago. Harold Washington won the Democratic primary in a close 3-way race. This normally would have ensured his election as Chicago's first black mayor, as Chicago is a one-party town. But there was a sudden flood of support for the completely unknown GOP candidate, Bernie Epton.

Epton proceeded to run a not-so-thinly veiled racist campaign ("Vote Epton. Before it's too late.") and nearly won: it was decided by just 1 or 2% of the vote.

Yes, for the Illinois GOP, when running against charismatic blacks, to now be looking to nominate other African Americans instead of pandering to racism, indicates to me how much progress my home state has made on race relations since I was a kid.

:-)

A brick, in IL. He isn't even from there.

Keyes gets another ass-whuppin'. Priceless in its entertainment value.

6. I heard something about Barthwell...
I thought I read on one of the real news sites that one of the incidents she was reprimanded for involved "Lewd conduct with a kaleidoscope" (I am SERIOUS!! I thought I remembered hearing this!)

First of all, anyone else remember hearing this?

Secondly, why does it intrigue me so?

Thirdly, was the kaleidoscope given to her by jack Ryan?

8. She sounds like a winner.
snip...

In front of her staff, Andrea Grubb Barthwell made repeated comments about the sexual orientation of a staff member and used a kaleidoscope to make sexually offensive gestures, according to the findings of a March 19, 2003, "hostile workplace memorandum" prepared by drug policy office staff. The Associated Press obtained the memorandum.

snip

The report says her staff had "the highest regard for Dr. Barthwell's credentials and knowledge, but ... almost uniformly stated their fear and discomfort with what they consider to be unusual behavior patterns and displays of temper."

7. could it be that the repukes....
want a guy like Keyes, black, kind of out there, dull to be the fall guy to Obama so they don't leave the idea in peoples minds that Obama beat one of there white party faithfuls to a pulp?

Sounds like that would really cause a severe ego blow to these creeps!

9. Does it really matter which one they pick?
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 11:00 AM by RodneyCK2
Given that the state is made up of mostly democrats, anyone running against the charismatic Obama is going to lose.

His speech at the convention literally floored me. I just can't imagine someone topping him (meant in a non-sexual way of course). :-)

11. Remember about how the Repukes were fielding Osama bin Laden
when they talked about "The Dems want anybody but bush - ergo if you put Osama on the ticket, they'd vote for him."?

Now they're just trying to get a warm body in the spot (see how long it took to find a BLACK Republican to try to run?).

Desperation.
