Abu Ghraib: Blame EVERYONE in charge and working there
I don't understand the either/or mentality I sometimes hear and read concerning who should get the blame for Abu Ghraib.

Here's the deal: everyone who KNEW about it and did/said nothing, everyone who PARTICIPATED in it, everyone who gave ORDERS for it, everyone who had any inkling this was going on is guilty of taking a hand in it.

The low-level soldiers had an obligation to refuse to follow illegal/immoral orders that clearly violated international law.

The higher-ups had an obligation to NOT give such orders.

Anyone on the periphery who knew about it and said or did nothing also is complicit.

1. Names we don't know
We all know Lynndie England.

OK -- what's the name of the C.O. of Abu Ghraib?

Here's a hint: It's also a woman.

How 'bout the father of Lynndie's child?

By the way, he's the one photographed in surgical gloves, punching into a literal pile of naked prisoners' bodies.

Don't remember?

See?

Lynndie may not be free of taint, but she's going to be the whipping girl for the entire vipers' pit. And that's what sucks.

2. Exactly and that pisses me off
it doesn't piss me off that England is getting hers. She should. She's despicable.

But hell yeah, not only the low-level people but EVERYONE involved needs to have their day in court (court martial, prison time) for these crimes.

Otherwise it looks like the US can talk a good sympathetic, oh so horrified talk about the prison torture and abuse, but our talk isn't backed up by much action.

3. Here is a good double standard

If you jump in a car with a friend, drive to a 7-11 and he
runs in, robs the place and kills the clerk, and then you
both drive off (even if you didn't KNOW about it), you are
charged with murder.

Apparently, if you stand around and watch Lynndie do her thing,
she goes down for 17 to 30 and you don't even get charged.
If you are her superior officer, you don't even get named.

4. THANK YOU
exactly what I'm talking about. Everyone involved needs to be charged, and I mean EVERYONE.
