I want to respond to this LTTE SO badly guys....can you help???
This appeared in today's Dallas Morning News:

I was out in my front yard watering Monday evening and noticed a father and his little daughter walking by. I smiled at the little girl and said, "Hi."

As they continued on their way, I heard the little girl say to her father, "Daddy, is he a nice man?"

"Yes, honey, he must be," the father replied. "He's got a 'Bush for President' sign in his yard."

Randy Smith, Richardson

Yeah, it's a simple, stupid letter. But it really bothers me. It presumes nice people vote for bush and people who AREN'T nice vote for Kerry.

Any ideas for a witty response? I know they'd print it if it is short enough....they usually print these types of LTTEs looking for a reaction.

2. You have to feel sorry for the girl..
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 05:15 PM by RodneyCK2
can you imagine what questions must be going through her mind as her father tries to ingrain these opinions into her? Bush=good/Democrats=monsters.

One can only hope that she will grow up with enough reason and intellect to decipher the truth from all that mess.

You can respond from that angle...

3. I guess he is getting his little girl ready for being molested
Anyone who would say that to a child is a brainless, stupid MORON.

You can't judge a book by it's cover. Just voting for Bush doesn't mean squat. Actually, I think there are more sexual deviants who are registered Republican than Democrats.

6. It's a sad commentary on today's political climate that partisan
politics is so polarized that such snap judgments are considered suitable for children

And then repeat it as fact.

In other words, it's a bunch of baloney.

8. Here's the letter as it stands, any suggested changes?
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 05:30 PM by Moonbeam_Starlight
I haven't hit send yet:

Dear Editors:

If Randy Smith's letter of 8/4/04 is to be believed, there are people out there convincing their children that they can tell if people are nice by who they are voting for and how they advertise that fact.

I would suggest to the father in Mr. Smith's story that is a rather sloppy, lazy, and possibly dangerous way of instructing his young daughter about strangers. I would never tell my daughter who is nice or not based on their political leanings. How simple-minded.

12. You like the simple-minded part?
Without saying it directly, I insinuated simple-minded = bush supporters.

He.

15. If you are trying to prove that Democrats are nice
I'd tone it down....a lot.

Second paragraph: I would never tell my daughter who is nice based on their political leanings. Come by my house and I'll give you a smile and a friendly greeting. I'm a Democrat and our history of caring for children and people reflects in everything we do.

17. They forgot to print the rest of his comment:
As they continued on their way, I heard the little girl say to her father,

"Daddy, is he a nice man?"

"Yes, honey, he must be," the father replied. "He's got a 'Bush for President' sign in his yard."

he then continued,

"it demonstrates the freedom we have in our society to express our political ideas, no matter how immoral they may be".
