Between Rock and Poll

Wednesday, August 4

The Vote for Change Tour, unifying artists in their desire to defeat Bush, was announced today. Many musicians are finding their political voice and joining the tour, not necessarily because they are for Kerry, but because they are against Bush. Ted Koppel sits down with one of the headlining artists, Bruce Springsteen, and discusses the the popular culture of politics.

13. oops, Bruce, you should have known the answer to this:
Whats the diff in Bush vs. Kerry's Iraq policy

DUHHHHHH, Bush has come around to KERRY's of course, just like the gigantic flip flopper he is

he could have expounded at length on that. easy one

is it pro John Kerry, or Anybody but Bush, says Ted

WTF DIFFERENCE does it make, like is this an anti-Hitler, pro Hindenburg stance?

what lameass questions

22. I heard in the 1980s, after Ronald Reagan referred to Bruce
Springsteen in a campaign speech in New Jersey, Springsteen became a registered Democrat.

Springsteen was also supportive of the Dixie Chicks when the media was freaking out that someone had dared to criticize Bush.

27. Actually it was a bit more than that
Reagan not only praised Bruce but tried to use "Born in the USA" as a campeign song. I don't know whether or not Bruce registered Democrat. What he did, however, was publicly denounce Reagan during one of his concerts. He also suggested that if Reagan liked "Born in the USA" he might like a song called "Johnny 99" which is about a laid off auto worker who gets drunk and kills a night clerk in a botched hold up. Oh yeah, and I believe that Reagan's campeign also got a visit from his lawyers.

Bruce was non-partisan at the time and respectfully requested that the Mondale campeign not use his music either. Because of this, when I heard that Kerry was using Bruce's music, I was pretty certain that Bruce was quietly backing Kerry.

Now he's come out. Good for Bruce.

24. I thought so too. Where were the tough questions on the WAR TED?!
I mean he's grilling a fargen Rock Star about a political concert? :eyes:

Asked Bruce about "big money" and progressives having issues with that in campaigns, and how we reconcille that with the concert yada yada. :eyes: My thought was it's not big money, it's lots of small money, GRR!

26. "Big money" ?
the money comes from individual ticket sales, thats everyone who buys a ticket Ted.
That he could keep a straight face and refer to concert proceeds as "big money" showed what a phony Koppel is.
Springsteen let him slide there somewhat, it would have been so tempting to demolish him at that point.

17. Koppel was going to get Bruce to admit
that the tour was ANTI-BUSH rather than PRO-KERRY if it killed him, wasn't he?

19. The truth is Bruce has been behind Kerry for years.
Max Weinberg even spent time campaigning for Kerry during the Iowa primaries. Bruce was ALWAYS going to come out at some point for Kerry.

Their generation is quite familiar with the fact that Kerry helped save plenty of their asses from going to Vietnam.

25. Wasn't that a strange line of questioning? In other words, Kerry isn't
motivational Bush is. Well Teddy, I'd say it's a bit of both.

I am voting against Bush and for Kerry. Simple.

his whole tone was antagonistic, like 'what right to do you second class citizens have to put on concerts to influence an election?'

Koppel suxx
