Three dollar plus Gas....and the RECALL
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 07:45 PM by Capn Sunshine
There seems to be ample evidence we will see three dollar gas in the very near future; if not then something near that...as in "all time record prices coming" per Dan Lundberg, gas analyst extraordinaire.

HOW , my creative DUers friends ,can we use this to hoist Arnold with his own petard? Outside influences screwing us again? I'm looking for a creative one liner for phone bank purposes and I'm out of juice.

My head exploded this morning and my brains are just all over the place.

goddam market.........:nuke:

1. three dollars?
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 07:46 PM by Kellanved
You're approaching European prices (around $4.50). And with American cars that's a problem - especially if the price isn't due to a tax paying for something reasonable.

2. Regarding the Hoist...
It's not "on" a petard; a petard was an explosive device:

To be caught in oneÕs own trap: ÒThe swindler cheated himself out of most of his money, and his victims were satisfied to see him hoist by his own petard.Ó A ÒpetardÓ was an explosive device used in medieval warfare. To be hoisted, or lifted, by a petard literally means to be blown up.

from The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition.ÊÊ2002.

Back on topic, I think just a few pics of him next to his Hummer should do nicely.

4. Fixed..."hoist with his own petard " is a common literary reference.
:)"For 'tis the sport to have the enginer / Hoist with his owne
petar" -- Shakespeare, Hamlet III iv. "Hoist" was in Shakespeare's
time the past participles of a verb "to hoise", which meant what "to
hoist" does now: to lift. A petard (see under "peter out" for the
etymology) was an explosive charge detonated by a slowly burning
fuse. If the petard went off prematurely, then the sapper (military
engineer; Shakespeare's "enginer") who planted it would be hurled
into the air by the explosion. (Compare "up" in "to blow up".) A
modern rendition might be: "It's fun to see the engineer blown up
with his own bomb."

I don't make this stuff up, folks :)

9. le Petomane comes to mind...
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 09:33 PM by BrotherBuzz

Le Petomane was unique. He exercised deft control over the muscles in his abdomen and sphincter in order to break wind at will, and--most impressively--in musical notes. His celebrated anal act consisted mainly of songs and impressions. He could only produce four tones naturally (do, re, mi and the octave do), but augmented his talents by using a flute affixed to an enema tube. Le Petomane's "piece d' resistance," however, came from smoking a cigarette and extinguishing a candle--all with the power of his his turbulent ass.

At his peak, this anal entertainer won sellout crowds at Paris' renowned Moulin Rouge, with his appearances outgrossing top performers like actress Sarah Bernhardt several times over. His live shows were so explosive; it was common for tightly corseted women in the audience to feint from fits of laughter. Like B-Movie King, William Castle ('The Tingler') the club's management generated publicity by stationing nurses to help those who keeled over from yukking it up. One man in the audience is rumored to have died of a heart attack he laughed so hard.

6. Glad to see someone else knows the meaning of petard.
A petard is a small bomb, a "little fart" of an explosive device. To be hoist(ed) is to be lifted (or blown) into the air. Blown aloft by your own little bomb.

I watched it play out, I feel your pain. But afterall it IS a Bush economy.

For your phone bank one-liner, maybe something along the lines of Bush and Ken Lay's friend, Ahh-nold, will Enron California again!

When Shultz joined that campaign the writing was on the wall, no?

16. Does this remind anyone of Enron driving up the energy prices???
What the story behind the increase in California? Can we expect prices to rise across the country? I guess we're not getting the use of that Iraqi oil yet?
