After all the rationales for the invasion of Iraq have turned out to
be lies, I would like to know what exactly was the reason for that invasion and why are we still in Iraq?

4. Several real reasons
Oil.

Euro.

Strategic Military precense.

US will stay under any Admin.

Iraq Sovereignty is 100% Pure Bushit!!!

The Neo Fascists had no exit strategy because they were not planning on exiting.

Kerry/Edwards don’t have any plans to leave either.

Only the Iraqis have the power to re-claim their own country.

5. K-W is right - please give us feedback on this board about what you read
because there are still some around here (and most of the general public, including the "liberal media") who STILL have not heard about the "Project for the New American Century."

Your question makes perfect sense and I think this archive on DU will provide you with lots of info & insight into the link posted by K-W:

Thanks for asking the question!

7. My own view is that there are two intersecting motives for the
invasion: The first, which is the U.S. interest, well defined in the PNAC document that K-W referred to, is that the United States now has an unprecedented historic opportunity to be the world hegemon well into the next century and will be in a position to prevent the rise of any potential challenger to its supremacy if it controls all the supplies of oil. This means that it has to be able to control both the Persian Gulf region ( Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq and the Emirates) and the Caspian Basin.Iraq presented a juicy opportunity not merely because it has a vast pool of oil itself but provides a base from which any gulf state that challenges the U.S. can be violently put down.

The second interest is that of the U.S. client state, Israel, which for quite some time has felt the heat of being the target of Arab hostility for its treatment of the Palestinians. The realization has dawned among Israelis and their supporters in the U.S. that Israel is in the same position that white South africa found itself two decades ago where the white minority government after denying rights to the much larger black population found itself besieged and no amount of violent put downs of the blacks was going to help its position unless white supremacy was abandoned.Israel is precisely in the same spot.As a small nation overwhelmed in a sea of Arabs without whose goodwill Israel will forever be at war, Israel has chosen the path of war instead of reconciliation and peace under Sharon. It has essentially abandoned the notion of a two state solution to the Palestinian problem because granting such sovereignty to the Palestinians would ultimately undo the Israeli state.Adding to this explosive mix there is the question of what to do with the 3 million odd Israeli Arab citizens whose population continues to surge as a result of their higher birthrates. The PNAC document actually has a proposal to deal with this 'unruly' population by using gene warfare by designing viruses that attack specific genotypes,i.e. Arabs.

Although these interests of Israel and the U.S. coincide it is not clear yet who made the first proposal to attack Iraq. It may be that the Israelis see Iraq as a kind of a Lebensraum in case the Arab population within Israel swells to the point where the essentially jewish character of Israel is threatened. In that case several interesting scenarios present themselves.First and most obviously is genocide carried out clandestinely using designer viruses.Second is the annexation of Iraq by the Israeli state and displacement of Palestinian Arabs to this newly established province of Israel or to Jordan. Or third a massive terror campaign against the Palestinians to induce them to leave Israel proper.

As one of the poster says regardless of whether we have a Democratic or Republican Administration the fate of Iraq is sealed and likewise the fate of the Arab citizens is also sealed with a sort of a variation of the Final Solution awaiting them at the hands of the U.S. and Israel.

When I read Sy hersh's article in the New Yorker about the sodomization of children at Abu Ghraib and the evidence presented by Gen. Karpinski about the presence of Israeli 'interrogators' at Abu Ghraib it occurred to me that we may yet see proof of Israeli participation in the torture of children and their sodomization because this is precisely what has been happening to the Palestinians in Israel for the past several decades. If that is proven, we would be witnessing at the dawn of the twenty first century crimes that we thought had been put to rest at the end of WWII.If indeed this happens, the prescient forecast of William Shirer before his death would have come true and history would have come full circle.
