Future President Marries Wealthy Widow

My local PBS station is now airing "Liberty - The American Revolution" Episode one points out that George Washington, who would eventually become our first president, married the very wealthy widow, Martha Custus.

Sound familiar?

but as a subsequent contributor points out, my remarks are intended to give historical perspective to the current situation.

Taken at face value, it would seem that some Republicans prefer "Stepford Wives." I prefer mine to be intelligent and outspoken, especially if she speaks five languages.

Okay, mine only speaks two! Darn.

7. Re-marrying in Washington's time was quite a different thing than

re-marrying now. Even first time marriages then were due to 'practicality' and had nothing to do with 'love' and loving someone. I don't think that love was ever meant to be a 'luxury', but somehow in conventional wisdom, it has become such....that's really wrong.

such a thing up, you unpatriotic un-American!!! I'm sure he had very good reasons for it, unlike that hippie pinko commie-loving america-hating sorry-excuse-for-a-nominee Kerry!!! :evilgrin: (Sarcasm off-although, sadly, that's exactly how too many freeps would really react).

This is one of the many, many, many, MANY reasons our lack of historical knowledge really comes back to bite us. Too many people wouldn't even know the name of Washington's wife, hell, they're lucky if they even know who Washington is!

5. This series is really worth watching!

Listening to the quotes from various letters and speeches of the period sounds eerily like today.

I would hope everyone gets a chance to listen to this program.
