I heard that Trey Parker & Matt Stone are Republicans...
Does anyone have any information backing this claim up? All their satire seems to lean so liberal.

2. Yes they are.
They are putting out some sort of puppet movie mocking the Dems and John Kerry. South Park still rules though.

11. It will probably suck though.
These guys have trouble writing anything good outside of South Park.

23. Does it really actually mock Kerry and the dems?
or just a few liberal movie stars?

I know that the movie was about Kim Jong Il funding terrorists or something like that, but I didn't know if it was based on the election in any way.

If that's the case it'll be pretty fuckin stupid, because I'm really tired of people claiming that only Bush can save us from the terrorists and other such nonsense.

That said, I do enjoy South Park. I like how they poke fun of religious nuts.

3. I think they are more libertarian.
Right-wing greedheads who want their pot and whores, too.

South Park is funny, but their self-centered worldview shows through as more than just parody.

4. I heard one of them was a Libertarian, the other a GOPer
And their satire is NOT particularly liberal. They've attacked hate crimes legislation, "enforced" diversity, hippies, peaceniks, public schools, environmentalists, homosexuality, etc. The "liberal" part shows up on matters of religious freedom and first ammendment rights.

I have yet to see them take any shots at W, easily the biggest political target liberal humorists have had in decades.

5. Didn't they have a television series about him?
Can't remember the name of it, but it was fairly entertaining -- and then 9/11 happened, and NO ONE joked about The President. (Remember how Michael Moore's book didn't get published until the librarians got on board?)

6. they had a short-lived live action sitcom in 2001
it was based on Bush, but it was going to be based on Gore if he won.

I don't remember it very well, because it only lasted three or four episodes.

So much potential...

8. Ya know, I completely forgot about that one
Will Farrell was an Excellent W, but Parker and Stone didn't hit him on the issues, they just played him for character humor with lots of backreferences to older sitcoms. They hit Cheney and Rove plenty hard, tho.

But in any case, it stopped dead after Sept. 11, 2001.

9. It wasnt mocking the president.
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 09:26 PM by K-W
It was a spoof of sit coms. It took some shots at Bush, but mostly was about parodying sitcomes.

And Will farrell wasnt in it.

13. Exactly...people persist in missing the point of their humor.
It is amazing how literal South Park is perceived.

I guarantee these guys never voted Rep in their lives, nor would they.

They like to be iconoclastic and hard to pin down, but they are NOT RWers.

But they do particularly hate liberals. But they arent partisans, they are just unfortunately not that bright when it comes to politics.

15. Does anyone remember the "Ladder to Heaven" episode of Southpark
where the mocked the whole WMD thing by having the army plan to invade heaven because (when Saddam had died in a previous episode), he was now in heaven manufacturing WMDs?

#2 - I can't see a right-winger mocking religion as much as they do.

#3 - I was surprised about how sensitive they are to gay rights. Sure, they poke fun at it, but the Big Gay Al character ends up being the good guy in most episodes, whereas the homophobes end up looking stupid (i.e. the two "Huh huh stupid gay dog huh huh" characters).

Not that I've spent much time analyzing the political subtexts of Southpark or anything...

Matt Stone Is an Atheist.

http://vanallens.com/exchristian/2002_10_10_archive.php

The Onion: Is there a God?

Trey Parker: Yes! Absolutely.

O: Do you believe in more of a nebulous spirit world, or a big man in the sky?

TP: Wow, you know, this would be an eight-hour conversation, and you'd have to get me a little more drunk. I can explain exactly what's going on, but I need to be a little more drunk. I really do have it figured out. I figured it out about a year ago, and it's great. It's all good. We're fine.

O: But the central thesis is that there is a God.

TP: No. There's a God, and there's also this table, and it's the same thing.

O: Matt Stone, is there a God?

Matt Stone: No.

TP: Oh, there's also a God, and his name is Prince.
