BartCop printed this email today:

Did you catch Kerry on C-SPAN at a recent yard party? He was heckled.
But you know what he did and I LOVE this! He called the heckler up to the front,
asked the heckler why he was heckling and gave the heckler the microphone.

The heckler stammered, blushed, gave Kerry the microphone back and left.
Of course, the media ignored this.

If anyone can verify with a link, it would be great for future reference on the Yahoo boards.

Tuvor, which Yahoo boards do you frequent? Political? Op-ed? or any/all of them?

5. Thanks for the welcome!
I scan mainly the Most Popular part of Yahoo's Politics section. It's impossible to quantify, but there *seems* to have been a slight tilt to the left over the past year-and-a-half. It's a hopeful sign.

After Bush is redefeated, I'd like be able to pay more attention to my own country's issues. In the meantime, the trouble is that it's really hard to ignore all the noise going on next door. Especially when so much of what happens in America affects us in Canada.

Great to be here!

10. " it's really hard to ignore all the noise going on next door"
That's my sentiment exactly!

There are a lot of reasons Canadians are getting off on watching American politics right now: the outcome will be drastically important to us, it's great entertainment that at the moment we can watch safely from outside the wire mesh enclosure, the plots and characters are more bizarre than anything on "The West Wing", there's that feeling of sick fascination you get driving by a bad rollover on the highway, and last but not least, a healthy dollop of schadenfreude.

This board seems to be one of the few sane political watering-holes, at least from this Canuck's perspective :+

2. Hey tuvor
Welcome aboard.

Good move on Kerry's part. Guess that's what happens when a man with character faces a man without.

3. great topic..
Kerry does not deny hecklers the right to participate, in fact he gave one an opportunity to show the audience what he believes in. It isn't easy being a Kerry supporter, but freepers' only defense for backing Bush is they don't agree with moderate compromises. Strange that they don't even try to invite others to support their candidate, even when given the opportunity. All they care about is dehumanizing and insulting other voters.

I don't even call it media, I call it censorship. They censor and withhold news, rather than reporting it and holding our government accountable.

Welcome to DU tuvor!! :toast:

4. That is a perfect example of Love Thy Enemy.
I know, go ahead and laugh, everyone. Corny. Out of context. But it works. It goes against all principals. And I'm totally tired and going to bed.
Yippee Tuvor, cool to have you around. Bartcop and DU make life a hell of a lot more tolerable.

9. "Love Your Enemy" works, partly because no one ever really expects it
People are cynical and expect the worst from each other.

8. I saw a video of that. I think it was on C-Span.
It was in one of the early primaries. The heckler was a Naderite, and Kerry let him say his peace - which didn't take very long. (It was the same old bs - Nader is the Second Comming, there's no diff between Dems & 'pukes - you know the deal.)

Then Kerry thanked the guy, and said something like "Unlike the current occupant of the White House, We aren't afraid of our critics."
