Holy SHIT! tom delay's opponent, Richard Morrison, called me personally!!

It was actually him, Richard Morrison, on the phone. OMG!

It was because I'd donated to his campaign before and he was evidently calling all his previous donors to see if they'd give again. He said his polling numbers had moved within striking distance of delay's - it was nine points' difference, but the big news was that delay has fallen to - what - 44 percent? 45 percent? Noticeably below the magic number of 50 percent - and that incumbents sinking below the 50-percent mark were more often than not - IN TROUBLE (kinda like we've seen some analysts point out about bush himself).

He said if he could raise some extra money to prove his viability as a competitor, the Democratic Party machinery would go balls-out for him in October.

THEN, even more interesting, we got into a conversation. I told him a bit about myself (Catholic mom, ardently pro-choice, ardently against blurring the separation of church and state, ardently against the war, vehemently against cheney and his sneaky secretive energy task force papers - THAT BELONG TO ME AS A TAXPAYER BECAUSE I PAID FOR THOSE PAPERS AND MEETINGS WITH MY TAX MONEY AND YET, I'M NOT ALLOWED TO KNOW OR SEE WHAT'S IN THEM. He agreed with me on all those issues. I told him I had a good friend in Houston who's gay and I'm fearful for him as to the persecution of which he's starting to see more, and I have a gay friend here in L.A. who would be barred from marrying her partner with whom she wants to make a lifetime commitment and I was VERY upset about this. I said I could easily be summed up in my views by mentioning MY congressman, Henry Waxman, whom I LOVE, and who really represents me superbly. He knew of Waxman and said he approved.

THEN, even more interesting still, I started talking about some of the buzz phrases and MEMES we kick around here on DU sometimes (calling CLASS WARRIOR!!!), and how I'm a writer and former journalist and that I came up with some stuff - and I gave him some samples and he said he liked those, and wanted me to send him some, and to send him some of the points I'd just made because he'd like to use them in his campaigning!!!

He asked me to send him those things! SHIT! Guess what I'm gonna do straight-away now!?!?!?

Anyway, I'm gonna send him another donation. If ANY of you DU Brothers and Sisters can do likewise - here's his info, via his partnership with the "Howard Dean Grassroots Machine"...

I also told him that, as responsive as Waxman's always been to me as a constituent and American of like mind, I've gotten personal notes but I've never received an in-person call from him! WHOA! I'm excited!!!

What a thrill, calimary! And what great news about the polling. OMG, could it be possible?

Yeah, he IS still behind, but not by terribly much (in polls where bush is behind by 9, that's described as Kerry having a "slight" lead!) and it's delay's below-50% that I REALLY like.

But even more, it was the fact that apparently this is a guy who likes the personal outreach touch. This has NEVER happened before, and believe me, my original contribution was not huge. I ain't no George Soros!

It IS thrilling. If he's this responsive to somebody like me, imagine how responsive he'll be to his own constituents! And he identified himself as a Catholic dad, who shared my same concerns. Just because we're Catholic doesn't mean we're fundies!

In fact, when Dean was in Dallas last December, he spoke to a small group of us upstairs before his main speech. He had just thrown his first official support behind another candidate, and mentioned wanting to do more in that area.

I raised my hand and said, "Doctor Dean, I KNOW we could use your support for Richard Morrison, who's running against Tom DeLay down in Sugar Land!"

His face brightened and he said, "You know what? I'd come down in person to work for that one!"

I'm so glad he has thrown his support behind him! We are so close! Let's all send rich some more $! We can't depend on the DNC. They've written us off. If we could take back this seat, this will be a big beginning! with Morrison and Van Os in, Texas can begin returning to our populist roots!

I talked with Morrison just a couple of weeks ago. For some reason the DNC has decided Texas is not worth any more than just $5,000, period for the whole state. In addition the DNC wanted the State Chair to send his eight paid staff to "swing states"!

There is going to be a rally in Arlington at the Convention Center on September 2nd. 5,000 plus expected to be there.

Delay is also under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for illegal use of Pac funds. If he were to lose it would be one of the biggest political stories of the year. And I am going to make SURE he knows who has also contributed, and how the internet has given his campaign a big kick, and how OUR folks on DU have had a seriously huge hand in it. How not only I have provided a slogan or two, but OUR nostamj has provided a slogan AND a bumper sticker design. How people here are willing to donate even if they can't really afford to part with too much (oh, that MARVELOUS bush economy!), and how committed we are to throwing our weight behind deserving candidates and causes. PLUS: how well-informed we are. We are pitching in because we all KNOW, painfully well, what an ASS tom delay is, and the many reasons WHY he's such a blight on our country and everything that makes it dear enough for us to want to fight for it.

Believe me, he's gonna KNOW who his friends are, and how much of a commitment people have joined forces here to deliver to him, and what a GODSEND of a resource and a brain trust he has tapped into. Because I intend to tell him. He's gonna know where that infusion of money and other support is coming from.

Has anyone noticed though that Gingrich, even after he slunk off rather than own up to his hypocrisy, is still in Washingon? Doesn't hold an elected office, but still helped achieve the Iraq war. If we get rid of Delay, let's make sure he stays gone. Maybe prosecute him for Westar or something so that he doesn't re-infest.

That just helps to verify that this is a good thing to do, at least for me. If Howard Dean throws his weight behind it, then how bad could it possibly be? Better than an imprimatur from the Pope.

My husband and I were talking to an interior designer friend (who's now interested in supporting him, too), and my husband told her that tom delay is so horrible that Jeffrey Dahmer would be a better representative! My husband said that! Whotta guy!
