I didn't see this BS in LBN on 8/7/04 when it happened-must have been asleep.

Biographer Sees Thomas As Chief
Justice

Sat Aug 7, 5:34 AM ET

By ANNE GEARAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Clarence Thomas (news - web sites) has been
interviewed by White House lawyers as a possible choice to be the next
chief justice of the United States, says the author of a new biography.

<snip>

AND this creep is getting RICH off on the back of Anita Hill:

<snip>

Thomas also noted that he is writing his own life story, for which he has
since collected a $1.5 million advance. The whopping book deal
surprised Thomas, but he is having the last laugh, Foskett wrote.

"Without Hill's allegations a decade earlier and the thrashing from liberals
ever since, he never would have commanded such an extraordinary sum for
his life story," Foskett wrote.

<snip>

There is no God.

5. I keep on saying this:
The SCOTUS will have an impact for DECADES after Bush is nothing but a bad memory.

I don't care if you think Kerry is a lump of feces (and I most certainly DO NOT), there is no better reason to vote Bush OUT than THIS.

3. Is it just me, or is that a bit pre-mature?
Last I checked, Bush won't be able to make any kind of appointments after January 2005.

6. Chief Justice Question
I detest Clarence Thomas' positions as much as the next person, but I have a question about the role of Chief Justice. Other than the title and presiding over ceremonial duties (inauguration of the President, chairing impeachment proceedings) are there any functional differences between the CJ and the other 8?

8. Decides who gets to write opinions...
If the Chief Justice is in the majority on a Supreme Court case, he or she may decide to write the Opinion of the Court, or may assign it to an associate justice of his or her choice.

http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/United%20States%20Supreme%20Court/Chief%20Justice

And that is not a trivial power as, usually, the devil is in the details.

I'm sure the GOP relishes in the fact that we liberals would have to attack a black chief court justice. man, and the guy like NEVER says anything during the hearings!!!!!!!

10. The Bombshell in Clarence Thomas Biography
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 09:09 AM by mesquite
He does not support Stare Decisis. Even Scalia doesn't agree with him on this!

"Thomas, says Scalia, "doesn't believe in stare decisis, period."

<snip>

"Scalia's remark -- that his fellow justice does not believe in the key principle of our society's rule of law -- deserves more attention."

Snipped from a review of "Judging Thomas," Ken Foskett's biography of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1090180289132

Clarence Thomas is a very angry, very disturbed, very scary man who adheres to profoundly anti-democractic priciples. We need to remove him from the court, by impeachment - seriously - not put him in control of it for the next three decades!

Foisting Clarence Thomas on us is one of the very worst things George H W Bush ever did in his life. Conversely, putting Souter on the Court was one of the best - but he did that by mistake.

edit spelling

16. It's a front.
They have to be able to say he was at least interviewed for the job, or the remaining forty three African Americans who still vote GOP will bolt the party.

No actual responsibilty will be placed in the hands of a Colored Person by this mob -- this is known as Powell's Law.
