Question: If a Hurricane hits Florida will anyone care?
Obviously CNN does as it has become the 24-hour weather channel. I guess no one told the head there that there already is a 24-hour weather channel. While I hope people in Florida are OK, I lived in N.O. most of my life and have lived through much worse. The smart thing to do is leave town early and not wait to the last minute, but that still does no make this hurricane news worthy. If it kills over 1,00 people than CNN should talk about but until then they should let the weather channel do its job. Oh by the way when CNN went through the headlines for today, guess what was not a headline. You guessed it, the congressional report which shows that Bush's tax cut only help the wealthy. The good news is that once again CNN had shown me once again that I am way overqualified to work for a half-bit news channel.

1. Sure this one is minor
but I seriously doubt you lived through anything worse than Andrew... Don't talk to us Floridians like we're Cherry's down here. Were not.

3. Whoa
Not calling you guys cherry's, and my bad if you thought so. I'm just saying that CNN should not be spending most of its time talking about this one hurricane. Maybe you think differently but I believe this report on the Bush Tax cut is much more news worhty than the hurricane, and it is getting 0 coverage. The weather channel is covering it and it is 24 hours. I want some damn news.

2. sure -- andrew helped give us clinton
The shabby way that Bush I treated the people of Florida after Hurricane Andrew, where thousands of people were left homeless for months, led to a major scandal over FEMA, which after 12 years of Reagan/Bush just wasn't up to snuff, and helped hand the election to Bill Clinton. Bush I froze up -- sound familiar? -- and delayed too long in declaring Florida a nat'l emergency after Andrew. He showed himself for the useless ninny that he was.

After the Congressional hearings and some changes, FEMA became much more effective in the 90s, and I was pleased with its activities here in Louisiana during that time.

Now that Bush II has been around for awhile, we've already seen how FEMA and disaster victims can get screwed. My area was hard-hit by Tropical Storm Bill last summer, and even when asked for federal assistance by Republican governor Mike Foster, Bush refused to give us a federal disaster declaration.

We'll see how FEMA does with Charley under the two Bushes. It sounds like Jeb is trying to be somewhat pro-active for a change and learn from experience, but it could be worth watching in my humble view.

Yeah, it would be nice if the media did its job, but I'm not holding my breath on that one! We just have to keep our eyes and ears open.

4. I lived through Andrew
I think some of us care that a hurricane is about to hit our homes.

Do we really need this macho swaggering? "I lived through much worse."

Granted the media live to sensationalize stuff like this, but some of us are really not looking forward to this afternoon. A little "sensitivity," please?

5. The story in the Bible
about destroying the grain to destroy the weeds holds true.

While I might be real satisfied if all the fundies, Repukes and Vote stealers were blown away, I'd like to think all the GOOD Floridians shouldn't be destroyed in the process.

And I worry about them, since the National Guard is being kept away from their job of being protectors of their own soil. Maybe only Jeb will be picked up and tossed into the Gulf. How precious that moment would be......

6. Bingo
Thanks for this. After Andrew, the National Guard were a tremendous help. We need them long before we even see any of the FEMA funds that I'm sure junior will be funnelling down here.

7. I sincerely hope for safety for
every creature who may be effected by this hurricane. It does look like the people have prepared in advance as much as possible--and hopefully no life will be lost.

10. Good distraction. At least it's only the weather.
My local news channels have become the 24 hour Kobe Bryant, Laci Petterson and Amber Frey channels.
