2. The way I see it.
Voting for gay marriage would have done two things:

1.) Would give the fundies lots of ammo to see a man support gay marriage, then have to resign from office after admitting an extramarital affair with a man. They would blame it on homosexual culture "destroying" him and his family.

2.) Would have made it look like he was trying to get out of his own hetero marriage.

Sure its not what I want, but he had to keep up that heterosexual front. If he hadn't had an afair it would have been fine, but he was gay AND a cheater.
