Barnes & Noble (Big Store) here in NC says Franken book not out yet!
Edited on Sat Aug-23-03 07:13 PM by KoKo01
I went over to my huge new B&N store this afternoon to check out Franken's book. I looked around and didn't see it anywhere.....although I saw Conason's new "Lies" (Franken and Conason seem to have very close titles), featured on a circular table on a lucite stand...a little "out of the way" but still close to the front as a "New Arrival." However a huge stand to the right featured a verticle rack of "best sellers" where Hillary's book was featured three rows down from evil Annie Coulter's screed of evilness.

Anyway, I'm still looking and this older woman with a red t-shirt with a flag on it comes up by me and says "Is that Franken book "Lies" here? I said...."I was looking for the same book.....I don't see it here." She says, "I'm going to the desk to see where it is" and I say, "I will follow you."

I followed her and she asked the very young gal at the "Help Desk"........where the Franken book was. The young gal gave a blank look and said "who?" The older gal said "The Franken Book....Lies.....it should be listed in your computer."

The young gal checks and says: "That book isn't out yet....."......The older gal says "The Franken book is out and you should have a date......is it back ordered for you." The Young Gal says: "We don't have a release date for the Franken book......" The older gals says "The book is out......it's been out.....why can't you give me when you will have it in stock?"

The Young Gal says, "We don't show a shipping date." The older gal and I look at each other and I tell the older gal that I just saw it night before last at "Borders Books" when I was there for a political meeting.......so I know that the book is out and on the shelves because I picked it up and put it in front of Annie Coulters "Treason" book on two shelves in the rack..so I know that it's out there.

The older gal says.....Did you see him on C-Span where O'Reilly had a fit about the cover of the book! I was so glad to see that and I had to buy this book. Do you think they are not telling the truth about the order date......have they held it back?"

I said, I don't know what B&N's problem is but I'm telling you I had it in my hands the other night at "Borders" books and I hear it's a best seller." She said....."well this is what they do....they keep books off the shelves......"

Her daughter holding a baby came up and we broke off the conversation.....but I thought I would post this......

Have any DU'ers had problems with Barnes and Noble Book stores holding back Dem/Liberal books?

And, another observation: This gal had a flag on her T-Shirt and I could have taken her for a RW'er considering where I live.....but there she was looking for Franken's book because she obviously can't stand O'Reilly and she had watched the whole C-Span Panel where the confrontation occurred.

Conclusion: Don't judge a book by it's cover (the lady with flag shirt) and some of our bookstores are really trying to stop our Dem books from being seen by the bookbuyers.

My "Borders Books" had Franken Book.....but B&N......doesn't even know it's out there..........

1. That gal is a little dense, then.....it is #1 at bn.com.
I checked just now. It is the top dog there.

I would call that manager, I do believe.

2. Not out at BN store in Palm Desert CA either
I had a similar experience with a sales clerk at Barnes and Noble in Palm Desert California. She was not familar with the book, and upon checking her computer, first told me that it would be coming out September 22. I mentioned that I believed it to be out next week, and she checked again and said that maybe this was so.
The price she quoted me for the book was $21.95, or thereabouts, plus tax. I just purchased it on overstock.com for $15.39 including tax and shipping and it is due to ship soon.

so I don't go there anymore. I'll go to Borders or order from Amazon.

I have some friends who used to work at BN, and they had a saying:
"Borders is better."

4. Speaking of which...Has any got a ship notice from Amazon.com??
Last I checked they said: Shipping soon - too late to cancel - est. ship date Sept 22 - 25. I don't really want to cancel - makes a great Xmas gift. I'll prolly buy one at a store if it doesn't come soon.

10. Mine shipped today
I know for a fact they didn't print enough copies and that is why they aren't in a lot of stores. How was the publisher to know that Fox News would file a completely ridiculous lawsuit?

6. Well, now isn't this interesting...
The local bookstore in my hometown (7500 in population,BTW) had Franken's book front and center.
They had quite a few copies and people were buying them.
I had to order Conason's book and was told that it would be at least two weeks before they'd get it in...
This was no Barnes & Noble, but a local hometown bookstore.

7. Same nonsense in Dallas
Went to BookStop (owned by Barnes & Noble) and they said it wasn't out yet. Right.

Went to Borders, and they had a glorious display just inside the front door. Also lots of Jim Hightowers new book.

I've called the B&N twice today and they said they should have it in next week some time.

They said they don't know why it hasn't shipped yet.

11. Dutton rushed to get the book out
Franken's publishers advanced the release date by several weeks to get the book out faster, accept some of the Fox publicity.

Don't blame BN or Borders or any particular bookstore, as their computers no doubt have the old info and the new info, and no one can make sense of it.

The book has had a 100,oo plus first printing. It will be EVERYWHERE by Monday.
