Will a heavy black turnout for Keyes and Obama help Kerry in Illinois?

It couldn't hurt. IMO

But Kerry will win easily in Illinois anyway.

What is more interesting is how the senate race might affect other races on the ballot.

for John Kerry anyway. Regardless, I still like to see a big Democratic turnout even if the election is a 'sure thing.'

I'm assuming they would vote straight R or straight D.

Blacks are not gonna vote for Keyes at all.

Kerry will win this state even if HE were to come out of the closet.

He better hope that he is not run out of Chicago before November 2nd.

There is another thread here today - Keyes was booed at the African American parade today. Really booed!

need not worry about Illinois. All the polls I've seen have him up double digits - though I do think it would be cool if Kerry carried the state by a margin similar to which he'll carry say NY.

Illinois is not a swing state.

...and those would boost our "popular vote" numbers. While meaningless to Bush, and the Electoral College, beating Bush by more than a half million and actually taking the White House, would be nice.

I don't remember which campaign it was that told me that--but since then I've seen other articles that say much the same thing:

Everybody expects Kerry to win handily in Illinois.

I am most interested, however, in the impact Keyes will have on the rest of the GOP ticket here in Illinois--especially Congressional races. There a a few GOP guys up on re-election that are just absolute toads and it would be nice if the IL GOP just gave up and stayed home.

Keyes' presence on the ticket really doesn't do a thing to help the GOP here. He's not well liked and he's got little support from what I can tell--even within the GOP! That adds up to the top two races on this ticket being races that are not really gonna be up for grabs. That can easily translate into voters who stay home or potentially split out tickets. Either way it bodes well for Dems, IMO.

in other states where kerry does need help. not just kerry but other democrats. keyes could turn off moderate voters.

we need the illinios senate race to get national attention. and we need to force bush to fully back keyes or not. if he doesn't we can attack him for that comment about dems taking african americans for granted, yet he doesn't back his own. if bush does back keyes it would show what an extremist bush is supporting and turn off moderate voters from supporting him.
