Why the hell does Bill Simon 'get it' but we don't?
source: http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/08/23/california.recall/index.html

<snip>
"I come before you today to announce that I am withdrawing as a candidate for governor," Simon said in a videotaped statement recorded in Sacramento. "I strongly believe the desire of Californians must come before the aspirations of any single candidate. There are too many Republicans in this race and the people of our state simply cannot risk a continuation of the Gray Davis legacy. For these reasons, I think it is wise to step aside."
<snip>

He knows better then to split the vote. Amazing how the idiots on the right wing can capture this simple concept but we still sturggle with it.

2. it's not that hard, really
There was no known scenario -- anywhere, by anyone -- that showed Simon could win. Rather that delude himself, he accepted his fate and dropped out of the race. For face-saving, you recall Hubert Humphrey and live to fight another day.

There is no known scenario where Graham, Edwards, Sharpton, Braun and (sorry...)Kucinich stand a snowball's chance in hell. It ain't going to happen.

It would serve the greater good if they made the field less cluttered. We may need to make room this fall for Wes Clark. How long will pretend that all ten are viable?!?!!

What????? Ask these good Democrats (who aren't afraid to say so) to step aside - and clear the way for a man who won't even say whether he is a Democrat or not??? All of these "under 100" Clark posters who have invaded DU are welcome here - as are all Democrats - but I would suggest your tactic not to be to ask the others to "step aside" and make way for your man. I know the strategy: you will write back and say you are "undecided"......no?

7. "under 100"
this means nothing to me, maybe cuz I am under 100, but I have seen many spiteful posts by those 1000+ and many fresh, interesting posts by those "under 100". Many of those "under 100" could be lifelong Democrats who just discovered the site, or people who don't live on DU and post every 5 seconds. But to semi-accuse those "under 100" of invading the boards in support of Clark strikes me as sort of conspiracy theory like. I am "under 100" and happen to be willing support Clark, when he declares. To alude to the claim that my opinion is less valid because I don't post all the time, even if welcome, is somewhat insulting.

11. LOL - if you buy that principle, it's Clark who should bow out

LOL, if Clark cared about the greater good, he'd have ended the charade long ago. we already have enough strong candidates. if Clark truly wanted to ensure a dem victory, he'd jump on the Dean bandwagon instead of pursuing his personal ambition.

9. I doubt...
... that this decision came without pressure from on high, and I doubt that he will be the last puke to drop out.

That 'lockstep' helps these guys win elections. They are not about to stop doing it.

10. The CA Rightwing is Howling
True tighwingers are pissed as hell at Simon for abandoning them and now the party machinery for effective pushing a Social liberal.

The win at any cost will further splinter the party. Arnold is going to self destruct again and again. Its going to be hard for eben Moderate republican to get enthusiatic about him .

Latest LA Times polls have Cruz up 35-22. Crus has gone up but Arnold has stayed contant. Remember the 40% who agaist the recall are all sure to vote for Cruz.

Even with GOP conso;lidations its doubtful the statehouse can be taken.

12. 45% are opposed to the recall and that number keeps rising
I don't know what BC's original post is about since Bustamante is the ONLY DEM on the ticket. The California Dem party DOES get it. They swept the field last November. The recall is an enigma and while it may energize the formerly DEAD Cali Repub party, it won't save them.
