Got my voter registration card...
and I'm planning to vote for the first time at age 33.

Before now I didn't really keep up with politics and it felt wrong to vote since I was uninformed. Now I can't seem to stay out of political forums. I listen to Air America before work and flip between NPR and the local Republican Radio which carries Hannity and Ingraham and O'Reilly on the way to work. Even though I'm not supposed to surf the Internet at work, I find myself stealing a quick skim through general discussion when it's slow.

Any advice for a first time voter? I figure general stuff like have identification and the registration card and such. Not sure what voting method my polling place uses.

I am not really familiar with the local politics below state (I get to vote for Obama!!)...is there a way to just select "all democrat" or do you have to go through and pick a candidate in every category? Is there a general voting FAQ of some kind? I assume every region is different so I'm not sure.

1. Many states let you vote "straight ticket"
Which records your vote for every candidate of that party. However, if there are referenda or such on the ballot as well, those need to be voted on seperatly... or, if you just don't know about something, you can always choose to not vote in a particular race.

Sample ballots are generally available sometime before Election Day so you can see all of what's being decided. You can probably find it on line if no where else. Remember, Google is your friend!

Welcome to voting and to DU!

4. League of Women Voters use to put out a question and candidates answer
newsleter for local and national elections. I don't know if they still do.

Often newspapers print the same type of question and candidates answer before the election.

Problem with LWV: their questions may not be yours.

Problems with papers: Same as above AND paper, therefore questions, may be very biased.
