1. This is telling
The television might hype the Bush line of propaganda, but more and more people are wondering when their loved ones will come home, and if there will be jobs for them when they do.

2. just watch for the
terra-lerts to start popping up...

labor day holiday and 9-11 anniversary, along with dropping numbers and a return from vacation could mean we will be bumped to "orange alert" within the next week or so

4. I'm thinking that these alerts are getting old with everyone
not just us here at DU. They will need to do something somewhat more spectacular. There's also the inquiry in Britain - they need a major diversion.

6. still effective new diversion
FAUX and CNN will be running terra-lert stories 24hrs

but yes, eventually the terra-lert will have to produce some sort of "attack" on US soil to re-invigorate it's effectiveness

the question is WHEN will it happen? How low will Whistle-ass let his numbers drop before an attack is allowed to happen...or "prevented" in the nick of time?

Next question - if/WHEN an attack occurs would it mean people would flock to the whistle-ass....or would it mean people will turn on him because of all the security holes? And would this mean ASHCROFT gets more power to invade our homes?

7. It would backfire
He said after 9/11 he would do what he could to prevent further attacks (not in those exact words). If an attack got through after all the "reforms" he's rammed through Congress, he will suffer serious blowback for all of it.

5. The magic may be wearing off the terra-lerts
More terror alerts may not help them now. After a while there has to come a point where people wonder why daddy isn't protecting them from all the evil-doers.

3. Amazing ,lousey job ,over 50% approval !
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 07:32 AM by NicRic
I just dont get it ,I cannot think of one thing this faker playing President has done that has given us a positive outcome and yet his approval remains over 50%. If any CEO of a company took over control of a business with a robust record under the previous CEO , then everything tanked, and I mean everything ,the guy would be looking for a job .Whats up with the American public ,do they have their eyes, ears and mounth covered. As I said Amazing and depressing also !

10. I suspect those polls are being padded
The American people are coming around. It's just a matter of time.

11. I think I can explain.
Although I'll have to look at that specific poll. What pollsters often do is ask the question with levels.

Do you.....
Strongly approve
generally approve
generally disapprove
strongly disapprove
no opinion

Then they lump the strongly approve and generally approves together.

8. yup
"And for the first time in a Newsweek poll, the percentage of registered voters who would not like to see Bush re-elected as president outnumbered those who supported a second term (49 percent to 44 percent)."

Popular wartime President my ass.

13. And the spin is that his numbers would be higher if there was a
specific candidate instead of a generic candidate. Sure.
