Iraqi war Veteran almost died. Now she's homeless.
I'm too pissed to comment. Here's the article:

"I almost lost my life in Iraq -- and I can't get a place to live?" said Turner, 41, who Army officials say is the first known homeless veteran of the war in Iraq. "Yeah, I'm a little angry. Right now, not having a home for my daughter is the greatest burden in my life."

1. unbelievable
"When she went to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury after coming home last month, officials there told her she had to wait until mid-October to see a doctor. When she asked the Army to ship her possessions from her unit's base in Germany, where she lived with her daughter for more than a year, they told her she had to fly back at her own expense to get them herself."

Some priorities our country has. Support for troops killing and dying in Iraq, but crap like this when they come home

2. A small price for a society that embraces WAR
I feel for her but our people must make better choices at the top for the situation to become better at the bottom.

We need to vote better, smarter, and with more passion.

5. What?
This woman has nothing to do with the "choices at the top." How could she deserve to be homeless and mistreated by a hypocritical Republican conspiracy?

Whether or not we vote for anyone won't alleviate this woman's suffering. There is a draft in this country, where working class people are groomed to be sacrificed for corporate profits.

If the military won't help her. If the Greedy Old Party continues to support the troops only until they need anything, then "we" can still help her. Social services have been assaulted; state governments are crumbling. However, there are still nonprofits that can help her and people can still help others.

Voting aggressively is always important, but more can be done than waiting for election day.

14. Fixing one person does not fix the prob.
We all feel for her and wish her the best. Finding a solution for her is one thing, but what of the thousands to follow her?

Its the Big Picture I was refering to. We dictate the results of our society via the vote. We vote for shit, we get shit. We vote for a better deal, we get a better deal. Our problem is we who vote for a better deal are far outnumbered by those who vote in haphazard ways.

Not only this poor woman suffers, all too many others suffer along with her. The Bushistas care not for the like of her and all the others. The evidence lies all about the landscape... and the world for that matter.

We think too small. If we plan for a good future and vote for it, it will come. If we vote with emotion rejecting common sense and logic, we get to eat rubbish and live in a squaloresque manner.

Come, we plant coffee trees

3. and people wonder
why we shouldn't have a draft in this country? This woman almost died for no reason. Now she's homeless for no reason. When you think things can't get any worse...

4. I don't.
I don't wonder why we don't have a draft. We don't have a draft because a draft is a form of slavery, and slavery is wrong. You don't defend a free country by impressing unwilling young men.

6. They don't need a draft.
A draft might inconvenience Republicans into finding anal acne and other justifications for avoiding a war they exploit. An obvious draft will piss people off. However, degrading educational, social support, and job opportunities (while grooming the public to worship "the troops") creates an informal draft where joining the military appears to be the only real choice.

7. Maybe a well-wishing republican can kick her in the side
and say "get a job, bum." I would expect as much from one of these money grabbing jack-offs.

10. This is positively disgusting.
How low can the Army go? I understand the problems involved, but geez..the least they could do is to see she has shelter.

With the amount of military bases that have been "closed", there are TONS of available housing for such veterans. The damned government is just too cheap to allow them to be put to good use.

:(

Gotta pay for those tax breaks, you know.

11. Where is the "Support Our Troops" crowds?
Before this war began, I seem to remember "Support Our Troops" rallies. Yet I have not heard about a recent "Support Our Troops" rally. Why is that? Have those people disappeared? Surely, they can spare some time having rallies to help this poor woman and other veterans.

16. I saw that
I was appalled at what our government had done to someone who had done her "duty", got hurt, was returned to the states and left homeless.

It truly displays how much our government supports the troops.

But at the end, I was floored. When asked if she would go back to Iraq, she said, most definitely.

Even she doesn't get it?
