Tv and Radio FCC License Renewal - "Petition to Deny"

Many station are up for renewal this and next year. If you have a beef with how the staion operates, Does it operate in the public interest?

Does it not operate in the public interest? Then petion to have it's renewal application denied.

A group has done just that to 64 Clear Channel stations whose licence is up on October 1 2004.

Milwaukee 620 AM WTMJ renewal application deadline is December 2004. With an expiration date in 2005. It coul dbe argued that radio staions that present only one sided viewpoints could not be in the publics best interest. If any think it would be a method of drawing attention to dissatisfaction with the media.

ALL stations are up from renewal between 2004 and 2006. Now is the chance to voice discontent with news coverage on a broad scale and to do so right where it will hurt most...the FCC operating license. Flooding the FCC with petitions to deny requests will certainly have an impact as the FCC keeps the airwaves as a "public trust".

Certainly outright lies and fabrications of news and slanted reporting is not in the best interests of the public who hold the FCC responsible for maintaining our airwaves.

It is a bureaucracy after all. Rules are in place that must be followed for renewal.

Each station has to maintain a accurate "Public File" that is made available to the public. It contains all aspects of operation, ownership, legal issues, political broadcasts, children's programming, public service announcements and how local issues are handled. If they do not maintain this file they are violating the license. Incomplete public files would be great to review.

It will be necessary to clean house at the FCC, and put the
brakes on media consolidation. Kerry has said he will do so,
and the media are giving him plenty of ammunition with their
blatantly one-sided coverage and the government's inaction in
the face of a total neglect of the public interest.
