OMG -- I hope you didn't miss Lou Dobbs on Moyers' NOW
My jaw is on the floor. It went on the floor just as soon as Dobbs started talking, and I never could pick it back up. He is a WARRIOR on the subject of outsourcing, too much influence by corporations in Washington, the destruction of the middle class, etc., etc. I am FLOORED. Someone post the link to the transcript. It is MUST READ stuff.

on his show 'MoneyLine' on CNN.

2. Thanks for this report.
Dobbs seems like the only one on cnn who cares what the bushes are doing.

4. For a while
he was one of the only mainstream media journalists who had the stones to call it like it was. He has earned my respect.

5. My Neighbor works for Lou, She is a repuke, and
has told me that she can't figure out why Lou has been so vocal on the subject. (Reality: She can't see the truth) She says Lou has made this his life's mission.

24. Yeah, he was pretty disgusting
in the march to war. I added him to my "Do not watch" list. After that one particular day, I have had a difficult time watching him. He really was disgusting and RUDE to a viewer who had emailed him. He's trying to atone for that now and I am not as forgiving as most when it comes to the media people who supported that illegal invasion. :(

29. Yes, much like McCain and his campaign finance effort...
... I appreciate Dobbs' efforts on the outsourcing issue, but I still find him suspect on a host of other issues. For example, he was hammering a guy from the Kerry campaign today regarding 527 advertising.

Rather than getting to the truth -- that the Bush campaign has spent enormous cash on massively negative advertising, and that there is a substantive difference in the veracity of the MoveOn and Swift Boat ads -- Dobbs hopped on the Bush campaign bandwagon, decrying all 527 advertising.

Hopeful, but remaining skeptical.

6. As far to the right as CNN has shifted I'm surprised he still
has a job there. Figured they would drop him with some made-up BS about low viewing numbers. He is the only financial reporter I've seen on TV that is actually asks the tough questions all the time...although the loud mouth bald guy on CNBC won't give the repubs a free pass all the time.

16. Clinton inherited NAFTA
If you want to blame it on someone, blame it on Congress. Remember Ross Perot and his warnings of the "great sucking sound" during the '92 campaign? I suppose Clinton could have vetoed it, but I think NAFTA had pretty widespread bi-partisan support. Besides, NAFTA isn't killing us nearly as much as the H1B's.

18. Kevin Phillips imho is an honest broker
he's a really good author and doesn't take any shit from the Bushies or anyone else for that matter. I saw him on cspan a couple of months ago and some asswad repug called in and started giving him shit about not supporting Bush, the caller screams..."You just hate George Bush DONT YOU???!!!" and Kevin Phillips just as cool as a cucumber says very matter of factly..."No, no i really don't care for any of them." It was so funny, nothing rattles him.

(and Kevin Phillips)

They are intelligent and believe in market economies and small government. They are also, however, realists, and are not willing to walk over the cliff with the rest of the lemmings in support of a political ideology.

Lou Dobbs recognizes that unregulated globalization and immigration will ultimately destroy the middle class in this country. And once the middle class goes, so does democracy.

27. yeah, what the hell happened to these guys?
they were conservatives who actually had some brains and common sense, guys you could actually argue politics with.

Now there's just this eighth-grade hate-fest from the right wing, nothing but lies and hypocrisy and worst of all no true conservatism.

19. Oh yes - that's Lou on his program
....night after night after night. Smacking down corporate leaders left and right. He's been gratifying to watch when there was a dearth of anyone saying these things. I used to think he would vote for Bush* anyway. But now, I'm not so sure with Kerry taking such a strong stand against outsourcing.

20. I'm not optimistic about "help being on the way" with Kerry, either.
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 09:43 PM by Dover
He is an entrenched insider....and you don't become an insider without playing the game. And when Edwards paid his obligatory visit to Bilderberg to win the approval of the corporate leaders, that should have been a clear sign to everyone about where his ambitions truly lie. Sure they are both a big improvement over Bush, but that is hardly the kind of measuring stick you want to use. We'll see what they are really willing to do to significantly change course...

We need to press for election reforms like it's our last breath so
that Democracy doesn't completely disappear or become some twisted faux democracy created by corporations who are driving this wasteland approach to global trade. We need to be sure that those who are AUTHENTIC representatives of the people are allowed to rise to the top of the political heap, rather than being suppressed by the leadership of the parties.

21. I don't see how Dobbs could possibly vote for bush
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 09:46 PM by NJCher
Given his feelings on this issue. He's adamant about it because he knows its importance.

I saw the segment and was terribly, terribly sad after viewing it. It is so deplorable what these corporations have done to the American middle class. And all to save a few bucks for the short term.

One thing Dobbs said that so impressed me was that the middle class is the only segment of America that's being asked to go up against the competition in such a head-to-head fashion. As an example, he said like the Chinese, who will work so very little.
