1. I've had a couple opportunities in my life to move to the south and
because of a prevalence of attitudes like those at that web site, I always have refused. I love the enlightened attitude of most west coasters and have always been happy in this part of the country. I'd get in trouble in the south, punching out rednecks all the time.

living in the panhandle of texas, not even the true south,.........

(albeit closet ones)

for a liberal to have to be closet, says it all, dont you think. i cannot put a kerry sign in my front yard because my husband owns a business and many know the house and word gets out. that is wrong

6. Then why (Unless economic constraints restrict) do you stay there?
You are meeting the definition of the "Good German"

It is sad you have to live in fear because of what you think....

12. Every area has pockets of non-conservatism.
I'm, for reasons external to my personal choices, living in West Virginia. It's not quite the "South" but it's pretty representative of a bible-thumping rural-dominated state. Most of the people around here, in this county and the few surrounding, are overwhelmingly in support of Bush. Bumper stickers everywhere, most of them about God, Jesus, and Freedom.

But I live in Shepherdstown. There are no less than four Kerry signs along the drive from this parking lot to the corner. I just learned yesterday there's an abortion clinic right behind my building. There's a college here. It's a small oasis of blue in a very red community.

I imagine it's the same in every state, for varying reasons.

24. "HATE IN THE NEWS: Spotlight on Portland"
Gee, it looks like you don't need to go far from your own "enlightened" neck of the woods to find "rednecks" to punch out. Are you brave enough to take on the local haters in real life, or are you just another keyboard cowboy?

Three Oregon men and a juvenile accused of a drive-by shooting spree through predominately black Portland neighborhoods on the eve of Martin Luther King Day face more than a dozen state criminal charges as well as the possibility of federal hate crimes prosecution....

"Portland is a city still trying to get over the murder of Mulugeta Seraw," said racism expert and Portland State University assistant professor Randy Blazak. "It doesn't look good on your brochure."

Seraw, a 27-year-old Ethiopian student at PSU, was beaten to death with steel baseball bats by three members of the East Side White Pride. The Southern Poverty Law Center later won a $12.5 million judgment against White Aryan Resistance leader Tom Metzger, who was linked to the skinheads.

Racism "is always a part of the criminal landscape here," Blazak said.

4. I say support them as an organization!
They want all like minded folk to move to South Carolina, to legally create their kind of world.

I say let them! - I'll take in South Carolina refugees...

to see where they live to justify their posts.

14. yea really, are we reduced to our current geography of living?
Methinks that over the lifespan of 80 years or so, that most americans will at some time find themselves living in many states
and nations. To presume that the "place" of your profile is any
statement about you except a current snapshot is rather infantile.

I would hope that a liberal minded person can live in the middle of
hell and still have a pure heart. It is interesting that some people
over-identify with the patch of ground where they walk every day...
and all politics is local and all that... but we in truth are roaming
animals of the earth. You are free. The earth is all of our homes,
and each of us cares for some smaller part, and the whole as well...
one wishes...

18. I think it makes it fun to know where people are from.
Also, it can be educational because folks are able to dispel myths about their locality.

19. It is more FUN, but shouldn't
be necessary to UNDERSTAND the post. If location is an integral part of the post, it should be included as part of the post.

21. You might be right that it SHOULDN'T be necessary,
but it has proven effective in debates that I have witnessed over the years. I wish I wasn't so tired because I might be able to think of examples of "historic" posts by WillPitt, Tinoire, tom_paine, mopaul, etc.

You have a good point too... I've been up all night... nite nite.:boring:

10. As a liberal southerner DUer I just want to say that I don't like jerks
from any region of the country, west, north, east, et cetera. Not everyone from the South is a jerk and a redneck. Your generalizations are equal to Europeans or Middle Easterners saying that every Amerikun thinks and behaves like the "weed that would be king".

Now isn't that rather silly.

17. There's several groups like this one in existence...
...all of them call Abraham Lincoln a mass murderer, and propose modern secession of the southern states. One online group, the name escapes me now, frequented Manus Hand's Dead Presidents message boards a few years back and were scathing in their criticisms of Lincoln (I battled them for quite a while on those boards).

Eff 'em!
