"Atop the tower of babble sits Rush Limbaugh"
From Joe Conason's "Big Lies":

"With a few exceptions- such as National Public Radio's politically balanced programming- the tenor of the nation's talk radio programming ranges from right to extreme right. Atop the tower of babble sits Rush Limbaugh with an audience of 15 to 20 million a week. At Limbaugh's heels is Sean Hannity, with more than 10 million. Then there's Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the Old Testament moralis- but even she is comparatively moderate in a field that includes Michael Savage, who thinks homosexuality is a plot to destroy "the white race," and G. Gordon Liddy, who once instructed his listeners on the proper way to shoot a federal agent. (It is amazing that the "family-oriented" and multicultural Disney Company promotes the kind of race hatred broadcast by the aptly named Savage.)"

LOL. Tower of Babble. Just thought I'd share this pearl from Conason.

1. The sheer numbers confirm the Loloness of us Americans
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 05:13 PM by opihimoimoi
Our Education system is a failure/

despite all those universities colleges out there, despite leaving no child behind,

we have a percentage of our people unable/unwilling to do critical thinking.

Emotional Rationalization is IN, Reason, common sense, sanity is OUT

This loloness has a steep price.

It allows for arrogance, denial, deceiption, Dualism, and the inability to think things out clearly. It fosters the seal syndrome, lay in the sun and let others do the thinking for you. Laziness, "I got no time to read man; btw, whats the spread on the Dallas game?"

Come, we go place some bets

2. Ah OPI, it is always good to see your pearls of wisdom...

Thought takes effort, something that is sorely lacking in America today.

Effort is used in this country to make money, and enhance someones social status. All other effort is deemed as a waste of time.

I have fought the good fight, and I will continue to fight wherever injustice, poverty and ignorance raise their ugly heads.

Back during the Clarence Thomas hearings, I actually got onto Limbaugh's program. I stumped him, and I'm sure I am in his little book of horrors.

He was railing on women in the military, (the penchant for infections idiocy). I asked him what uniform he wore; he answered that he was defered, I told him I knew about the boil on his butt, but I stated that there were many who 'covered up' deficiencies to enlist; they felt it was their duty.

To make a long story short....I told him that I didn't care who was in a foxhole with me, as long as they could shoot, and had the guts to stick it out with me. As for women in the military, I told him I had served with many, and in most instances, I would rather fight with them, than some of the guys that called themselves 'soldiers'.

Limbaugh hemmed and hawed, but I finally got in the last word, "How come women show more patriotism than you ever thought of, and yet you fly the flag under false patriotism, while some of those women came home with that same flag draped over their coffin"?

He went to a commercial break, and when he returned, I was off the air, and he called me a "Liberal Idiot". Brainless fools in pickups and tractors probably howled in agreement. But I am a decorated vet...something boil boy can never, in his wildest dreams, ascend to.

Great to see you again OPI! Your words inspire me.

:hi:

4. Well now Raspy, I guess its you and I, no one else seems to back up sanity
and reason.

The Rush ditto hds are stumped, unable to engage. The Pub moles and trolls avoid threads like this because of obvious reasons.

For 28 years I put my life on the line for my people. Our Honolulu Fire Dept now have many women FFs. So does the Police Force.

Where was Rush when it came to serve?? Applying meds to his boil?? On his ass?

Oh me. Oh my.

I would be ashamed to go into a bar man.

"Here comes a SORE ASS"

5. I used to think we were a dying breed...
but I have a daughter in the Navy, and I still tell the guys at the VFW, that most of them were cooks and mechanics when I got my third PH. If I live to be 120, I will fight with every fiber of my mind and body to ensure equality and justice prevail.

I have the greatest respect for you and the Honolulu FD. I was a Volunteer FF back on Shelter Island in NY, after I got out of the Army the first time. Captain of a 1958 American LaFance, 500GPM. Since it couldn't pump as much as some of the others, we used it as a S&R truck. One of my proudest moments was pulling a three y.o. from under a bed while the house was fully immersed. (LOL, my partner left me in there, guess he got a little scared). The kid survived, although I wasn't sure if I would, and every year for 5 years, (till I moved), on the anniversary of that fire, they always had me over for dinner. By the grace of God, the child didn't even get singed.

People seem to forget that we would sacrifice ourselves for others, and think nothing of it. I still tear up when I think of those that went into the WTC to help those that needed it.

Anyway....I am so very happy that I have had the opportunity to have met you via cyberspace. Perhaps, if the winds blow in the right direction, we shall meet in HA.

Till then Aloha my friend.

6. Its a pleasure Raspy, always a pleasure to meet a Man who been there
done that. There are others, Hubert Flottz for instance, who are men of courage, passion, and knowledge. Hubert was a high steel guy, did bridges/towers, etc.

This is one of the resons for me coming to DU. I get to meet and share w people like you. BTW, my daughter deleted my chat room icon from the desktop, I am unable to get on it for our chats, please email/pm me

Rush and Sean will never be able to be seen as MEN in my mind. They are whores who make a living tearing down good people who want to help our society not unlike the terrorists who attacked the UN. They are divisive, rude, arrogant assholes. A turd on the ground has more credentials than they.

Come Hawaii, we go Marlin fishing

7. So WTH happened to the rest of us?
Seriously I can't ever remember listening to Rush and not just getting seriously PISSED at almost every word he ever spoke. The rest of'em I just don't listen to because frankly I don't think my blood-pressure can handle it. If Rush is the king of that sh*tpile, I think I'll take a pass on the rest of the dung.

8. For some odd reason the Rash guy has a huge following dispite
his outrageous style and diatribes. It goes against common sense and reason. He tears down people who wish a better America and builds up the Pubs who want America for themselves. I guess selfishness has gone contagious.

Come, we read Joes book/
