If the government is not for the people then who is it for?

I know this is rhetorical, but it's also an attempt to understand what THEY are trying to do with the government.

Right wingers don't want to pay taxes to support the infrastructure of the country that allows them to prosper--let alone pay taxes to help less fortunate citizens. Those in power by virtue of their riches plot to empty the treasury by funneling money to private companies and to their own pockets--a roundabout tax refund of their tax money and ours.

They seem to stop at nothing to advance their agenda of personal enrichment without consideration for the moral integrity of their actions or consideration for the long term impact. Deficits be damned. Erode the middle class? What's wrong with that? They don't care whether workers earn fair wages, or are even paid for every hour that they work for that matter. They want to take away the right of citizens to go to use the courts--even creating legislation that would automatically impeach judges for taking certain cases violating the Constitution's checks and balances.

Capitalism in it's purest form is their guiding principle. They want to replace real citizens' rights with corporate rights since corporations are separate entities, persons in many respects by virture of our laws. They are rewriting the Constitution in favor of corporate interests. Free speech? It now belongs to the Rupert Murdochs of the world.

It's so difficult for me to understand the selfishness and greed that would lead people to take these actions that are destroying America as we know it.

For thirty years they've worked to get to this point and they've been successful. If they get ten more years, what will we be left with? What are they trying to do to this country? What will it be like for the majority of citizens if they advance their goals even further?

1. republicans are paranoid
about anything having to do with government. as clinton said, since ronald reagan republicans are being brainwashed into thinking that government is evil.

so somehow they fully trust the business and corporation to be fair, they just don't seem to accept the fact that life is not fair, and that we need rules to regulate corporations and we need a safety net for less fortunate. they view such things as communism and oppression. apparently its not enough to get a society where those that overachieve become rich, sometimes it seems like that want a society that punishes those that underachieve with lack of healthcare, food, and housing.

2. I hear you
I think it's sad that people who are fortunate enough to prosper from one of the greatest systems in the world forget their origins. Most of the advocates of the far RW are only two or three generations removed from the very poverty they abhor. They are despicable because of their greed and even moreso because of their immature selfishness. They have no empathy or compassion or even the simplest consideration for humanity.

3. "Why do you hate america ?"
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 01:14 AM by sweetheart
I once raised a similar argument with a puke, and was dumbfounded by
the reply "Why do you hate america?".

It is their generic response to serious critique, weaving in
the subterfuge that questioning their adgenda is antipatriotic,
unamerican and hateful. It so threw me off, i stopped, realizing
that they are malefic, and toxic. There is no reasoning with
a hungry bear who wants to eat you. They are refighting the civil
war, and we are the union.

The real question was why do i hate the confederacy, and i think
history has already explained why.

However, I can't help but take a lesson from that civil war of
olde, that has re-emerged as the confederate republican states,
that fighting with guns was wrong, killed 2% of american peoples
and has not ended slavery at all, rather modern economic america
and its greater relations support more slavery the world over than
any previous time in history. Fighting a violent war was the
mistake.

I think civil disobedience should be the tool of this new civil
war. If every honest patriotic american parked their car in
the middle of a major intersection and had a sit-in, it would be
more effective than talking to the pukes. Shutting down their
business commerce, and global empire takeover is crucial to
defeating them.

Core to that strategy is dumping the dollar, and god forbid a bad
result in 2 months, but if the dollar goes down to reflect the
asset stripping of the neo-convicts, their system of imperial
economic hegemony will fall apart, and with it, their system of
slavery and subversion of the constitution.

However, these slavers have allies in the far east (read: china)
who agree about keeping the worlds populace enslaved, so they keep
their dollar peg and buy up the bad credit, as, geesh, it is just
as blood-drenched as their own bad credit, and they know if the
pukes go down, they do as well.

SO, in this global situation, the civil war has moved outside US
borders where the situation is in stasis until november. All
regimes that support the bush slavers, must be "regime changed" as
it is these foreign forces that keep the bushishta's afloat.

Blair must go down.
Berlusconi must go down.
Howard must go down.
Sharon must go down.

These outside agents, a mere 4 individuals are costing america
and all the citizens of the world just democracy by all the
means you mention in your post.

Karl Marx may have been wrong in the 19th century to presume that
politics was borderless, but with the internet in this modern age,
his maxims of a global civil war against corporate fascism are
even more true. It is a global battle to be won, and ground zero
today is in Iraq, where some poor shiite muslims are fighting our
civil war for us, and helping to destroy the criminal bush
kleptocracy.

4. Well it's SUPPOSED to be
OF the People
FOR the People
BY the People.

But the Bush/Cheney Dictator/DUI/Duo have managed to convince themselves that that whole Democratic Republic thing was a bad idea, that the Declaration of Independence is obsolete, that our Constitution is just some lease they can get out of by using some expensive White-Out.

But blood was spilled for every freedom we enjoy. And in our name, blood is being spilled this moment, you can bet. For freedom? Or Power? Or greed? The leader of this country, one Mister George W. Bush, knows the evil he is doing. And the blood of the PEOPLE of this nation, past and present, must haunt him every waking moment.
