Freepers now have a conspiracy theory for Spy story
My prediction is that by tomorrow evening this will be a conspiracy theory blamed on Kerry.

I certainly hope that this is a story created by Arabists in the State Department and CIA, hoping to undermine anti-Iranian efforts. I would hate to think that the Mossad and someone in Feith’s office would have been stupid enough to do this.
The hard left, Arabists, and anti-Zionists all win, as does Iran and its Islamist allies.

Personally, I do find certain elements hard to believe. Feith has never been close to AIPAC, which is fairly liberal. He was a founding member of the right-wing Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs. JINSA deals with actual military matters. AIPAC spends most of the time trying to prop up Histadrut (Israeli Labor orgs) with American foreign aid. Given the focus of AIPAC, I see no reason why they would use anything more than standard press clippings and public Pentagon studies. Jinsa, on the other hand, is full of retired military analysts. This leads me to doubt any innocent explanation.
Either the Mossad was politically blind, or this is a planted story.
The story itself is not an FBI release, but a leak to CBS
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/08/27/eveningnews/main639143.shtml

Creating such a story would be fairly easy for Feith’s enemies. They need only find an aid who had ties to AIPAC, who accessed this classified information to call for a FBI probe. Once the probe is started, they simply leak its existence to a friendly news source.

Whether, Feith or his aide, where involved in anything nefarious, the political damage would be done. Even if the probe dies for lack of evidence, Feith is tarred and any advice he gives is suspect. Even the rational for the Iraq war is damaged.

1. They've gone from..
denying any PNAC connections to the war to openly defending them.
