Kerry/Edwars signs everywhere in affluent Oregon neighborhoods.
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 09:47 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
I have been doing some driving around the mid to Northern part of Oregon the last few weeks and I can tell you that there are Kerry/Edwards signs up on lawns and cars everywhere. It is easily a 1 in 10 margin, 1 being "W" sticker sightings for every 9 Kerry/Edwards sightings.

We are coming out of the wood work and we are letting our freak flag fly high and proud. I have been driving from Salem which is roughly the upper middle of the State(As well as the capital), all the way to Portland Oregon. In my vast neighborhood tours I have noticed that the Kerry/Edwards lawn signs are everywhere, but what I found real suprising is that I have found the most in very affluent neighborhoods.

These are people with half a million+ homes who more than likely would benefit from Bush's fat tax give away to the rich. Instead, Our affluent neighbors are choosing to put their country in front of their immediate needs and relinquish their tax cuts in favor of a America that is affluent for everyone, not just some.

I am feeling so proud of my fellow Americans right now, that I could just burst. I have garnered some faith back in my fellow brother and sister, I am starting to believe once again in the grace that Woman and Man. Thank you Portland, You rock!

1. Good news.
I also notice around here that the luxury cars have K/E stickers, the littler older cars are B/C. Far more K/E's. My son said he drives past a house in Saratoga Springs that has had B/C lawn signs out for a while. This weekend he drove by and they have a K/E sign and the B/C signs have 'must go' on them. Someone got pissed. I'm thinking a veteran that didn't like one of their own getting lied about by some chickenhawks.

It appears that the country is catching the ABB fever. Throw the crooks out, they've stolen enough. Too bad that they can't be locked up for their crimes.

22. Really?
I'd see here in the Portland area what Bush stickers I see are inevitably on brand-spankin'-new-big-ass SUVs.

I have seen NO Bush lawn signs and oodles of Kerry lawn signs. My street is plastered with them.

5. I think that it's going to be a smack down on Nov. 2nd.
The pubs are going to be whirling for elections to come. I don't think that the polls have it right. I think that the pollsters are pulling for Bush because all I see is support for Kerry out there.

4. HELP!!!!!!!
COOL!

I live in a lower mid-class neighborhood of mostly elderly, about 2 blocks from the state fair, currently ongoing (bleh--fucks up traffic BAD), and there is ONE K/E yard sign on my street. I have K/E sticker on my car, and for 2 weeks now, I haven't had my window bashed out (I was kinda expecting it, dig?). I live in Salem, and I STILL have yet to see ONE bush/go fuck yourself (i.e. Cheney) yard sign or bumper sticker. AND, * managed to get my MOTHER to want to register ABB! SHE has not voted since 1968. She is so scared now, that, "even if it doesn't make a difference," she's willing to try.

Anybody know the last date to register to vote? My son's coming back from CA on 9/2, one day after his 18th b-day, and I want to register Mom and Son on 9/3. My son's already registered twice, but they keep rejecting him 'cuz he's not 18 yet--oh yeah, and my son's friend who turned 18 yesterday--he got declined too.

GRRRRRR.!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!

OREGON ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Who Can Absentee Vote in Oregon?

Anyone registered to vote in Oregon may request an absentee ballot.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

A voter may request that the ballot be mailed, or a voter may go to the county elections office to vote the ballot. Absentee ballots are available by written request 45 days before an election.

Ballots requested by voters who are overseas or who are in the armed forces are normally mailed six to eight weeks before an election, while ballots mailed to all other persons within the United States are normally sent beginning three weeks before an election. There is no given deadline for submitting applications, although voters must allow time for the ballots to be sent out through the mail and returned to the clerk by the Election Day deadline.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

The ballot may be mailed or hand-delivered to the county clerk. In order to be counted, the ballot must be received by the clerk no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Other Information on Absentee Voting in Oregon

The request must include:

15. Call this number
1.866.ORE.VOTES Your son should be able to register even if he isn't 18 yet. If you're doing it by mail, make sure and send a copy of something with his name and address on it. If they still won't register him, call that phone number or the Secretary of State office and raise hell. They're not doing it right if they're rejecting voter registration from people who will be 18 by the election.

It should be okay, tho'--he's 18 on 9/1, and I promised my mother I'd get her registered, too, so we'll just do it together. Can we go directly to Sec of State's office to register? I was just worried cuz I heard you had to be registered 60 days in advance in order to participate. One time he registered at a rock concert and the second time at DMV, so I know he had the ID, because that's why we were there. I just don't understand why it was rejected the second time.

6. Yeah Portland!!
I live in Portland and work in a rather affluent neighborhood, Irvington. I'd say the it's 20 to 1 Kerry Edwards yard signs and bumper stickers to shrub's. It really makes me smile. Now know that Multnomah County in Portland is very Democratic, but still, it's the enthusiasm and outright support that is shown by the signs and bumper stickers that is so encouraging!!! Plus, we have mail in voting, NO Touch screens here!!! And aren't we lucky to have full time Air America!!! I love my city.

(By the way, I don't know a lot about the technology, but I think that our mail-in ballots are read by optical machines which can also be subject to manipulation.)

11. Even better
I probably live within a few blocks of Bungalowgal (I'm in Alameda :hi: ) and for sure Portland and Multnomah County are going to deliver big time to Kerry. That's to be expected.

But I grew up in rural Oregon and still have connections there among many who are struggling to stay in the lower middle class. These people are traditionally moderate Republican voters, the ones who in years past may have voted perhaps for Mark Hatfield or Vic Atiyeh or Tom McCall.

I can tell you for sure that many of these voters are bitter and angry about what has happened in Oregon and nationwide. They are very unhappy that the Radical Right has highjacked their party. Kevin Mannix, take note.

For example, my mom's best friend lives in Coos County and has told me that there are a whole lot of people there who are very unhappy with *BushCo.

Kerry drew a huge crowd in Jackson County, not exactly a bastion of liberalism.

37. The only k/e sign I have seen
down here in Coos County, was at the Democratic booth at a festival over the weekend. The k/e team is just not drawing much excitement here in our rural community. The booth did not draw much attention.

As opposed to the booth for two specific Democratic candidates (Joe Whitsett and Arnie Roblan), both of which I actively campaign for. The two booths were across from each other. Many people in Coos Bay/North Bend/Bandon are campaigning hard for our county and state candidates. Oh yeah, and for Pete :loveya: DeFazio.

There was a Green booth as we have a somewhat large Green contingency. And interestingly enough, there was NO repug booth.

One of the activist groups I belong to, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, has members of assorted parties. The whistle ass/dick party members have gone from loud and belligerent to very, very quiet.

16. I'd be interested in a follow-up in a couple of weeks
I get up and down the I-5 corridor from Portland to Salem and Albany from time to time, but I don't much get off the main roads. I'd be interested to hear about 99E and 99W, the split highway that serves the eastern and western Willamette Valley.

In a couple of weeks, I expect the Republicans to start getting their campaign gear out in earnest in the afterglow of their weeklong suckfest. It'll be interesting to hear a follow-up report then.

They'll still endorse Bush this year, I'm sure, but their actual content is improving. The Mike Francis reportage from Iraq ("Guard troops ordered to return prisoners to torturers") and the steadfast David Sarasohn (better than ever this year) give me some hope for the future.

p.s. - I live up off of Alberta. Totally fucking pro-Kerry. Lorenzo from across the street was so pissed off about black voter intimidation in Florida that he came and got a ton of bumper stickers and buttons to take down to Joe's Louisiana Club. Earl's barbershop has a huge Kerry rally sign in the window. White people: Earl cuts white heads too, so give him some business!

this past weekend dropping our oldest off at the University of Virginia (sob!) and I was SHOCKED and pleased at the number of Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers we saw on cars with *Virginia* plates. We moved away from Virginia this past summer, but I noticed the difference on this return trip - in previous years, it was a rarity to see anything but Shrub stickers/signs/etc. When we lived there I felt at times that I was the only Democratic voter in the state. This, though, was encouraging!

35. I think that it might have to do with education.
It's not always the case, but i am betting that the more affluent neighborhoods are better educated and therefore have better thinking and reasoning skills than the people in lower income neighborhoods who are moved by demagogery and one sentence baseball slogans. That's who Bush was talking to when he made the fuzzy math statement.

This means he'll win big throughout the major metropolitan areas, including Salem, Corvallis, Eugene, Roseburg, Medford, Ashland, etc. In Central Oregon he'll carry the Bend area by larger margins than Gore did. That's my prediction anyway.

We live in a lower middle class area in Portland and I almost expect these people to be the kind that just don't vote. But there are TWO Kerry signs on my street. I see more everyday and we went to the zoo on Friday and it was like every 10th car in the parking lot had a Kerry sticker!

They had a piece on KOIN about Kerry signs getting trashed last week in the Cedar Hills area/Beaverton. Reminds me why I refused to live there. LOL.

I feel for those that have to live in pro-Bush places, I really do.

Y'all won't believe what happen. But first let me tell y'all a little something about myself. I'm a resent Ex-Republican. But anyway I have a Republican For Kerry sticker on my car. I was heading down Stark St. to the Burger King to take my little boys to eat. Boys are 7 & 3 yrs. Well as I approached 92nd this Big Huge Dodge Ram truck almost hit our rear-end. The driver then kept following us for a bit. Then the guy came up on my left and yelled that I was a traitor to my Country. At first I was shocked but then I had to laugh. You see my 7 yr. saw the Bush/Chaney 04 sticker and he said "Mama you are right Bush is so so crazy. I hope Mr. Kerry wins." So we might not have alot of Bush Nuts out here, but they are still out here.
