Purple Heart Bandaids
Has anyone here seen pictures of John Kerry's wounds that earned him his first Purple Heart? That would be the most powerful message here.

By wearing the Purple Heart Bandaids, the rePugs don't feel like they're dishonoring the war wounded whose pictures people have posted here with missing legs, missing arms, and other grotesque injuries. They think they're making fun of a veteran who got an undeserved medal for an inconsequential wound.

I feel like the pictures posted here, and the messages that come with them, are very powerful for people who already believe in Kerry (which is most of DU) but they aren't going to convince anybody who isn't already on our side. I don't think they convince any undecided voter that the rePugs dishonor "all wounded Vets" or "all Vietnam Vets".

Posting pictures of Veterans with missing limbs, along with the cheapass Purple Heart bandaid pictures, is a good way to whip the DU crowd into a furor, but a picture of Kerry's wounds (that earned him his first Purple Heart) would be the best way to convince someone who doesn't already believe. And let's face it, convincing Kerry fans to vote for John Kerry is not going to be that big of a challenge between now and the election.

6. What do you mean?
Who are the trolls? If we've got a picture, I think it would be an extremely powerful message to make. There are people out there who believe John Kerry didn't deserve the medals he got.

Nobody would dispute that a guy with a missing leg deserved a Purple Heart, and those are the pictures I've seen here.

I can't take a picture of a 20-yr old with a missing arm to one of my right wing co-workers as proof that the rePug hate machine is wrong about John Kerry and his honorable service in Vietnam.

If you've really got a picture, I'd like to have it because I've got voters to swing. Florida voters, at that.

17. Listen, you could show these people
a picture of a person with a 12 inch gash down their leg and it wouldn't mean a thing to these lizards. These are not the people we need to win over.

22. You know what I'd like to see?
A picture that would document that the bulge in the crotch of Chimpy's flightsuit was authentic, and he didn't just have some socks stuffed down his shorts, or was wearing Depends undergarments that became bunched up.

If he can prove that it was really and truly his own package on display, I might consider voting for him, and even get some of my friends to.

Please, just show us some photographic evidence.

The election is about how incompetent, delusional, cowardly and ineffective Shrub Bun is. Kerry's servic e is not the issue, the issue is that the Chump in Charge LIED about his "service" flying fighter jets my fucking ass! and yet sends his goons out to smear Kerry. He is a bastard bullshit phony ConnectiTexas billionaire who doesn't care how many people he kills to get what he wants.

Kerry tried to stop the killing. Even the crime they accuse him of, self wounding for profit, is dwarfed by the number and variety of Dubya's many murderous crimes, the Iraq Lie, I mean War, being only the worst.

So don't even trouble yourself about Kerry's wounds. They are well-documented, which is something the Vets for Corruption er "Truth" can't say with a straight face.

They are a mere phantom that the Bushies are throwing in your face so you don't see where they put the pea under the shell. Sounds like you swallowed their bullshit whole and feel Kerry has to prove his heroism. (acknowledged even by Bush)

On the contrary, it's Bush who must now prove he did his duty. Ever.

4. Oh please. What a crock of shit.
Why in the hell would Kerry even consider lowering himself by displaying his body to convince deluded people who will NEVER believe he deserves his awards? What the fuck kind of suggestion is that?

Christ, Max Cleland left three LIMBS in Vietnam, and that's not good enough for these fucking nutcases!

Show pictures of his wounds, indeed.

And frankly, I do not care what those assholes THINK they're doing with the bandaids. I care about what they actually ARE doing, which is disrespecting anyone who ever served,in a juvenile, hateful, and cruel way. But then, what else do these dickheads know? Douchebags.

7. Uh, dude
I don't think they had the time in Vietnam to take pictures of the wounds. Not too many 24 hour Fotomats over there.

Here's the thing. Kerry got the Purple Hearts. Like it or not. He served. If anyone has a problem about how the Purple Hearts are doled out then maybe the military needs to revisit the requirements. But questioning Kerry's Purple Heats also calls into question all those Purple Hearts of those who did not end up in a body bag. You really want to go there?

8. Photographs? Was their evidence needed in a trial?
I don't know of any time when wounds were automatically photographed. And, a shot with a bandaged arm would be called "faking" or any of the usual shit.

Hey, Cleland lost limbs, there is still visual evidence and his injuries were attacked as not "battle" earned. The fact is that any injury in a combat zone is eligible for the award. Its a minor "reward" for real pain---don't think so? Try raming your big toe (shoeless) into a chair leg and report back to me on the pain. I've never had sharpnel, a small piece is one piece more than I'd want.

Pictures will do nothing.

10. I'm just responding to all the pictures posted here right now
of people with missing arms and legs and scars wrapping around their faces. I don't understand how these are relevant to the argument that people are trying to support.

I've got voters to convince, and pictures of young kids injured in Iraq 2004 doesn't help me convince people who feel that John Kerry's medals are illegitimate.

14. Really? Ask why they think the Navy lies!
Ask if they really think that you just put in a form and pick up your medal at the BX on the way out of the base hospital. This is beyond Kerry and those of us who are veteran know that too well---hell, decent people know what this is. Explain how Max Cleland's missing limbs are also "doubtful" injuries that are targets of ignorant "pundit" claims of "drunken grenade handling"

souless fucks. The military does NOT just give them out when we apply. You have to be injured. How hard is that to understand. If someone can't get that, they don't want to listen.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:04 PM by Toots
How do you post a picture of that? You obviously know nothing about being wounded in a land such as Southeast Asia. There is absolutely no excuse for the behavior of those Republicans. No matter what they were trying to portrey their method was scurrilous and they know it. It was in no way honorable or they would not have pulled them so suddenly. How is your honor?

20. Hey I have an idea..
Why don't we make all recievers of Purple Hearts send them back until they can produce a picture of their wounds to prove how badly wounded they were. Cause you know the medical records could have been doctored or even... gasp... LOST!

"They think they're making fun of a veteran who got an undeserved medal for an inconsequential wound."

Yeah well I don't give a shit if he got the wound shaving. He was in combat in Vietnam. END OF STORY!!!!!!!!! IMHO every veteran deserves a goddam medal and anyone who didn't serve but has the fucking balls to make fun of someone who did should automatically be drafted into fucking combat. I really wish John McCaine would pull his fucking head out of his ass and tell the Bushies what he told them in the 2000 debates. "You should be ashamed of yourself".

"Posting pictures of Veterans with missing limbs, along with the cheapass Purple Heart bandaid pictures, is a good way to whip the DU crowd into a furor"

Actually that would disgust me, what whips me into a furor is having to put up with a fucking Jackass like you. Somebody please ban this Moran......

23. Hmmm
I kind of see why everyone is responding negatively to the OP. But there is a valid point there in that, in general, we are all preaching to the choir here. Any tit-for-tat with republicans over Kerry's war wounds versus Bush's hookers & cocaine isn't really going to accomplish anything with the much-ballyhooed "undecided" fence sitter (all 25 of them.)

The fact is that no Gore voter is going to vote for The Fraud. And Gore won the last election. Many people I've talked to have both admitted they voted for Bush in 2000, and said they were going to vote for Kerry now because Bush "didn't turn out the way I thought he would."

SBV/band-aids/etc., accomplishes two things for Rove/Bush: First, it galvanizes the base of simpletons who, like they did during the Vietnam war, have a war fetish. To these people, being anti-war is like saying your wife/husband is ugly, only worse. Second, it can potentially cause some would-be Kerry voters to stay home on election day. They hope to demoralize. These two factors are the only method (outside of a likely red alert/martial law/canceled election) that Rove/Bush has at its disposal.

As many have pointed out, the idea of having Kerry "display his war wounds" is absurd. Not only is it completely unnecessary, it would even further allow the democratic campaign to be choreographed by Rove. Kerry has already gone too far in letting Rove/Bush define him. But we all know this isn't a serious proposal anyway (politeness and board rules prevent me from elaborating.)

The key factor to winning is voter turnout. The more people who vote, the wider margin of victory Kerry will have. And the margin will have to be great enough to overcome The Cabal's best efforts to "suppress" the vote with intimidation, BBV, etc.

As for the "military vote," I remember a time when it was the tradition in the military to not vote. This tradition began with the belief that the military was subservient to its civilian leadership and had no place in politics at all. But now we have all our little soldiers saying, as I heard one say on the radio the other day, "I'm voting for Bush because ... well, because he's my boss!"
